I think that was the point.
The twins and the brother would jump at the chance to hail satan. The father was a complete fucking ass. The mother would've sold everything for a silver fucking cup. Tomasin was pure, though. So satan puts her in a place of complete hopelessness and despair so as to tempt her. Because a soul given freely/willingly is worthless.
