Plus, we have no idea how tough those robo-dogs are. They could be impossible to hit with heavy weapons, and capable of destroying a tank. If you want to build on the paranoia of the outside world, have the movie end with her looking at the sky, then suddenly grimacing at the horror, whatever it is, that we never see.

i expected some sort of bit at the end where they "show the monster" but it should have been a short sequence and should have ended with the girl dying or at least made it to where it was unclear if she survived or not.
blowing up the ship, discovering civilization still exists, and then choosing to go to houston (or wherever it was) to fight the aliens were all things that didn't need to be in the movie because they happened too late to be relevant unless they're pushing for a sequel.
