They have nothing better to do than pull people over for going 5-10 over the speed limit and then they do everything they can to trump up the charges. I am also not delusional enough to believe cops with a half-hour response time will be able to help me if someone breaks into my house while I'm there. Let's be honest, when it comes to actual crimes involving life and property, the police are pretty ineffectual. And the real problem is that cops would disagree. Too many cops don't know the law of the land. They blatantly lie to your face, tell you that you can't film them or that you are required by law to provide them with your name even without reasonable suspicion of a crime (and contrary to the right to remain silent). They lie to your face. Whether it's because police departments purposely hire people with lower-than-average intelligence because they are more likely to follow orders rather than think critically (they do) or they are knowingly lying to you when they claim you have to do something that you, by law, aren't required to do, I don't know. But twist it how you want. The issue is a lot more complicated than "if you haven't done anything wrong, you have nothing to worry about". Plenty of people who did nothing wrong have ended up getting anal searches or in prison.
