Probably watching some Iranian stuff later today, not sure if going out for drinks yet

Watched The Hunt yesterday, thought it was alright. Pretty frustrating not only because of the plot but because I wasn't a fan of the camerawork.
Watched To The Wonder today, the only Malick I haven't seen. It had some wonderful moments, and was excruciatingly beautiful, but it wasn't without some tougher stretches. It felt to me as though Malick wasn't entirely comfortable with the pacing, but ultimately I still believe he's yet to make a bad film.

>>70398569
how does one get close to getting into KG?
>>70398497
Why Farhadi? He's a great director but never films anything abstract. He takes a voyeuristic approach into Iranians' lives.
>>70398634
Friend of mine just got given invites and while he's run out it means others will as well so i'm gonna trawl the invite forums on PTP,CG etc till some nerd hooks me up
>>70398626
his point is he is still technically a thinker
of course me & u know better than to take him seriously as one
>>70398622
No, it's the right one.
By the way >>70398608, I suppose the ranking
District 9 > Chappie >Elysium is the consensus
>>70398497
do these directors make you think?
or do they just make good films. fellini only cares about the story in films. and pta? characters
>>70398696
>of course me & u know better
That's very gay

It's not even much to keep up with, we've had the same battery technology for decades. The only problem is that the volume got much higher so we need more output.

If you genuinely think that, you didn't understand either movie, especially Vice, which is probably his most complex work.

Honestly, any genuine proponent of auteur theory should be acknowledging guys like Paul W.S. Anderson and Rob Zombie as auteurs regardless. Auteurism has nothing to do with abject quality, and all of the directors VA champions fit the definition of auteur pretty nicely.

No, I definitely agree, but in the context of the argument, he was basically arguing for Vice being a 'turn your brain off' kind of movie. It's probably the least character driven movie PTA has ever made, almost solely propelled by its themes.

I watched Green Room after some recommandations and I wasn't disappointing, it was a good suspense with good gore and with good tension, really well made and different from other horror movies.
Demolition is not my style of movies, but I really love that one, specially since I kinda felt like that guy (not dead wife, but the feeling of loneliness). It's funny and not over dramatic so you get attached to the story and characters, I recommend the movie.
And X-Men, that was a good surprise also, I didn't really like Civil War and didn't really was interest in a new X-Men movie, but finally it's the best super hero movie of the year and probably my favorite X-men movie now, loved almost everything about it!

Why did he request it? And what a bunch of pussies. This is piracy, not a fucking charity
>>70414570
you can find a thread about it on KG. the admins themselves were reticent but it seems the primary motivator was that one of the more well known KG contributors was friends with phil and phil asked him to remove it because the tape they were ripped from was never commercially available (he made it to test out the transfer and someone got their hands on it) and he would be releasing them on blu ray soon anyway (that never happened i guess).

>>70417961
yeah ever since i saw it i've always wished Mann would do more work with Lubezki. it's one of his best looking films. it's in my top 5 Mann, but it's not on the level as his 4 masterpieces (MIAMI VICE, BLACKHAT, THE INSIDER, MANHUNTER) because it doesn't address the negative side of Muhammad Ali in any way. it's still a very, very good film. 9./10 from me. the first 25 minutes are absolutely sublime, 10/10 direction and editing.
>>70417758
lmao
>>70418007
>it doesn't address the negative side of Muhammad Ali in any way.
Mann seems to think it does, which according to him means showing Ali trash-talking other black men and having extramarital affairs. What a devil.
I really think this is top-tier Mann, an example of the greatest he can do. Apparently there is even a third edit in addition to the theatrical and the director's cut released on DVD that Mann wants to put out. Someone drag him away from the editing bay.
