I have no idea why Jackson didnt cancel the release dates and spend another 5 or so years planning every scene and getting a practical effects department to help him instead of making everything CGI.

Who cares if we waited another 5 years. Patience would have made this movie memorable rather than it being forgotten as such a poor film to screen adaption.

Pretty fucking sure the producers didn't allow him. I'm sure he would have loved to, but there's no way they didn't push it on him. He had to choose a direction to go with it, and focus all of his creativity in that way.
I feel really sorry for him. If I was in his place, I wouldn't care about the money, I'd just care about making a decent duology (let's face it, that would have been the optimal adaptation), but he couldn't cause del Toro already had a lol of shit planned. He was thrown in on the project and had no choice but to go at it, mixing his vision with another, incompatible one and making CGI horseshit. Does no one here remember that by the time they started working on BotFA, they literally had no script and just started pretend fighting in an open space? I would kill myself if that happened to me. Jackson's a champ.

Basically Jackson was put in the position where "shoot in 6 months or we're going to pick up some Hollywood hack that'll do it regardless of circumstance"

He did it because he loves Tolkien. The fact that he managed to put out 3 decent movies should be considered a fucking miracle. Not to mention, there are some 4 hour fan edits that are GOAT
>>
>>70378945
I'm sure he didn't want to pass on making a LOTR movie. I'd make a shitty movie too, if it meant adapting what I love. AND for millions of dollars? Fuck you. Plus I'm sure he didn't realize the state the movie was in until after the fact. Those grey hairs weren't self-imposed.

That's the thing about The Hobbit, he shot so much, aside from the overuse of CGI (out of necessity since they had 6 months of pre-production, couldn't even commission WETA to do props in that time), fan edits can easily trim the fat and make a really good 4 hour movie.

This is a completely retarded statement. Hopefully you can figure out why on your own.

>AND for millions of dollars?
Jackson already has tens if not hundreds of millions of dollars. He and all his children are already set for life. There's no need for him to pine after more, or use that as a reason to compromise everything he used to represent.

>Plus I'm sure he didn't realize the state the movie was in until after the fact. Those grey hairs weren't self-imposed.

FUCK this scene had so many memorable moments and in just 20 seconds I can list so many that stood out for me as a kid

>6 seconds - that arrow passing his head as he shouts
>9 seconds - the choreograhy as each soldier lifts up their sword spear one after the other
>18 seconds - the close up of the sword that is the most important object in this scene
>22 seconds - the look of fear as the true reign of terror appears

The Hobbit hardly had anything like this which is what made the LOTR trilogy just so special and memorable: every scene was carefully scripted and planned out.

Lake Town was a set, I guess they didn't want to bring a horse there for safety reasons and it's not really something they could film with a greenscreen.

That begs the questions, "why film it at all since Legolas just turns up at the shore of Lake Town in the next movie anyway", "why include Legolas in the film at all", and "why", but who knows the answer to those.

I actually liked An Unexpected Journey. I thought it captured the spirit of The Hobbit pretty well, even if I couldn't stand Radagast and his fucking bird shit covered head (really, Jackson, really?). The riddle scene with Gollum was fantastic. Bilbo had a nice character arc. Bullshit was kept to a minimum. 6/10

Desolation of Smoooooooooooooooog was terrible aside from seeing Smaug. That was great. 3/10

Battle of the Five Armies made me embarrassed to be watching. I couldn't believe how bad it was. 1/10, being generous.

nah it was boring. I give it a 3/10 due to liking the prologue, Frodo's cameo, the Dwarf song, a tiny flashback to that sword from LOTR and Gollum's appearance otherwise the rest was shit.

Desolation of Smaug I give a 6/10. Is my favorite out of these 3. I actually liked the romance.

Five Armies is a 3/10. So much pointless action with just no substance. I have a hard time believing it was over 3 hours. It felt so quick as I must have zoned out.

Del Toro wanted a single "fairylike" movie with cgi-enhanced practical effects
>>
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQkygZdZ_Vk

Everyone knew it was gonna be a pile of shit before the movie was even released. Studio exes were probably laughing all the way to the bank that these stupid LOTR cucks would watch it regardless

Honestly, all 3 hobbit movies were bad. The 2nd probably being the best and even that was shit. You also decide to bring the least interesting LOTR character with the terrible actor that plays him (Legolas).

All the CGI was absolute pleb-tier - looking far worse than CGI we had over a decade ago, and accompanied by an underwhelming score. The hobbit movies are a disgrace to what they achieved with LOTR.

If I understand it right he was basically taking the bullet for us, if he didn't agree to do the project they would have just picked up someone else who wouldn't even try. Yeah it's not great but if he hadn't signed on to the project whoever they got instead would have done it worse.

I still haven't mustered up the courage to see the third one but in the first two the whole thing felt squished, like they didn't take the time to properly setup each character, the locations, or the journey between them. In LotR they obviously had to cut a lot out but it never gave me the disjointed feeling that the hobbit movies had.

Definitely should have done a better job introducing the dwarves too, I get that it's a massive cast but you need to do more than give some of them 4 total seconds of screentime.

Yeah I hated how Smaug was only in the first 5 minutes of Five Armies - it just felt so uneven the way they ended Desolation on a cliffhanger.

They REALLY should have only done 2 movies; easily you could cut out lots of the pointless action such as Smaug chasing the dwarves. After Smaug talks with Bilbo, he then should immediately fly out and attack the city.

Manhatten meddling with DC is DC meddling with the events of the novel, no matter how small the change is. Sure, you can say that the book stands alone for now, but DC is most likely going to fuck with it even more by bringing Watchmen into the universe and mixing them with the metahumans. Meanwhile, Moore is probably contemplating suicide.
The Hobbit films are only an adaptation, with no solid line to connect it to the book, while this is an implied continuation in the same medium.
Honestly, I'm fine with it for now, but they're bound to fuck it up.

nobody who loved The Hobbit would have made these films, he did it because they backed up the money truck to his house and said "c'mon Pete, three more films" and he got on board.

A guy called Steven McMichael. A second-rate stuntman for TV shows

The guy who did the choreography for Lord of the Rings on the other hand was Bob Anderson, who was basically THE guy you went to if you wanted to choreograph a battle scene from the 80s until the early 2000s.

>>70379052
There's a romance to the production of The Lord of the Rings trilogy that'll probably never be seen again on a grand-scale movie set. Every department got over 3 years to perfect their work to ensure that what we saw on screen was their absolute best. Watch 30 seconds of one of those weta workshop videos from the original trilogy and the collective passion and dedication is evident in everyone, every prop, every miniature. They poured their lives into making those movies, giving up years of their career. That creative licence and commitment to not cutting corners is something we'll never see again. No studio will ever green-light a project like that again.
