It does, it's always just framed from a more low key perspective, which works very well with how the story is told.
A Song of Ice and Fire isn't as subversive as people tend to think, it's actually very much a traditional fantasy story, it just spends a great deal of time developing the characters before we get to the heroic conflicts that will define them.
Game of Throne has undeniably done an incredible job of building a fantasy world that is honestly far more expansive than Middle Earth with a fraction of the budget and resources. I don't know why you guys get like this, so vindictive and nitpicky that you can't recognize quality work when you see it. Game of Thrones as a show was never going to be perfect, but it's done a great job thus far even given all of it's failings.
