Is buying a 4k TV worth it even with content? Does it make a difference?
>>

Minimal gains, probably can't even tell the difference between 1080p and 4k in a living room set up.

Depends how much disposable you have to justify getting one
>>
4k will always be niche.
>>

This. Just fat stupid Americans with overly inflated paychecks when their jobs could be automated get shit like this. And the best part is half the time they don't even know how to properly use their devices.

It's worth it if you have the money.

its all about how close you are sat to the screen and how large the screen is.

so if its a 40 inch screen and you are sat 10 foot away, then its pointless.

>Minimal gains, probably can't even tell the difference between 1080p and 4k in a living room set up.

the same retards said that about the difference between 480p and 1080p resolution

With TV's getting bigger and bigger there is a noticable difference between 4K and 1080p, especially in TV's sized 65 inch and bigger 1080p resolution starts to look shitty compared to 4K
>>
>>70357408
Eventually the price will go down, so there will be no reason to stick with a shittier resolution.
>>
Try in 2-3 years
>>
If its 100+ inches and you're less than 15ft away, sure.
>>
>>70357408

initial adoption of emerging technologies always carries a premium price

that, coupled with the lack of content says the smart money should wait

unless you don't care , but the picture is noticeably better..and even takes some getting used to as everything has " that soap opera look " to it

Kek
How big a room do you need to watch a TV over 65 inches in size?

For anybody that doesn't have a private cinema room tvs of those size will look shit being so close to the massive screen, regardless of 1080/4k

>How big a room do you need to watch a TV over 65 inches in size?

do you live in a capsule home in Hong Kong? my TV board is about 5 meters away from my couch, i could comfortably watch stuff on a 90-100 inch screen without it being too big
>>
For films?
Nah.

For TV somewhat

If you're into Gaming and have a premium gaming PC it's something to look at

4k is just a meme

HDR, on the other hand, is bretty gud.

also a meme

This. My current LED 75" i nthe living room is only 1080P and it is fine for TV, sports, and movies.

55" in the game room is also good enough. PS4 is not 4k and the hardware can barely handle 1080P anyway.

For my PC in the office, that is where I want a 4K 32" or 40" monitor. The hardware isn't quite where it needs to be yet, but it is getting there. Unlike a game console, a proper PC will actually make use of 4k.

Once a proper batch of 4k gaming monitors come out in 2017 I will build a fresh new PC to run them.

HDR is the biggest meme

You won't notice the better resolution but the colors are amazing.

My 290x plays 4k fine
>>
>>70357408
no, 1080p is perfect
>>
>>70358942
This honestly what I notice most of the time the colors are so much better
>>
>>70358961

I was talking about monitors, not video cards. Most gaming monitors are only 28" and the 4k ones all have flaws. 2017 will be the first year 4k computer monitors are not shit.
>>
>>70358986
Real 1080p is still great didn't notice how good it looked until I got a gaming pc and I had to choose between 720/60 and 1080/30 1080p looks so much better than 720p makes me cry I can't play them 1080p/60

The funny thing with 4K TV is that the korean "economy brands" have snuck in and taken the top spots in most categories.

LG and Visio are kicking the shit out of Sony, Toshiba, and Samsung for picture quality. Even 2 years ago people would have laughed in your face if you made that claim.

The Vizio P series at $999 has a better picture than a $3000 Sony. Most consumer websites and tech publications were stunned at how Vizio pulled this off.

Japan shit the bed when it came to 4k while Samsung spent too much time and energy on those fucking curved screens that no one wanted.
>>
It's only worth getting if your TV is 65" or above.

Or if you're getting a 55" and you sit like 5 feet from it.

Currently almost nothing is even in 4K so its just a meme right now.
>>
Fuck 4K get a 1080p OLED for the best TV on the market.
>>
>>70359558
Sony needs to fucking put the cost down on their TVs. It's a shame cause they look great and the build quality is better than any other brand but fucking hell once you get to 55 or above in 4K they're $1000 more than any other brand.
>>
>>70359743

Sony ruled the CRT and rear projection days and used to be able to justify their higher prices. They have really been struggling to catch up for the past decade while still expecting premium prices for their products.

Vizio did something clever with the P series.

-Remove the tuner. They are no longer TVs any more but are simply large 4K monitors (response time is also insanely fast comapred to normal TVs)

-Remove the "Smart TV" features and replace them with a built in chrome cast.

The last two TVs I bought were "smart TVs" and they did nothing but piss me off with popups and "apps" that only a soccer mom would use. Also I have not used a tuner on a TV since the 1980s.

nigga that's a store demo TV where that image is displayed 16hrs a day, of course it will have burn in. That's why you never buy demo models.

You can reverse the damage anyway.
