The problem I really have with it is SPOILER how she defeats it in a unrealistic way. Up until the ending it was believable. For instance the circumstances could have resulted from nuclear warfare, a nuclear breakdown, or even a natural event. It felt lazy just to fumble the sci-fi bit at the end, and allow the girl to unrealistically defeat it...

It was good until the giant thing. When she's trying to get to the car, knowing there's that smaller "something", and we're still imagining a FUBAR Goodman coming out after her, the tension is great.
