Which puts it head and shoulders over most of capeshit.

Honestly, it's pretty decent. Doesn't hit the highs of 80's and 90's blockbusters, but I can't think of many from the 2000's that are any better.

You'd find a better argument in your couch.

It wasn't an argument. I was just saying. You think superhero films are a bastion of excellence or something? The genre is a dumping ground.

Key scenes are great,
>Nightcrawler in the white house
>Mansion fight at night (The fight in the lab was more or less shot the same but still a lot of fun)
>Mystique and Wolverine were great together

But a lot of time the movie seemed to be waiting around killing time for the next scene to start, lucky you had Brian Cox, Xavier, Wolverine, Magneto and Mystique to make those scenes watchable. But for the most part I feel the movie is dragging it's feet. It's a good movie but it stops itself from being great.
>>
X1 was so shitty it made X2 look great when it came out.
>>
The art style/camerawork givong it an eerie aura

Aliens and Terminator 2 did that too, hard to pinpoint what it is
>>
>>70305491
It's basically RR wearing nothing but a g-string and pasties then painted blue, no pussy shots but you can see every detail of her perfect ass if you play her scenes in slow motion
>>
>>70306193
>movie seemed to be waiting around killing time
It's called character development. It's this strange thing films used to do before they became 2 hour amusement rides.
>>
>>70306214
X1 was good until Wolverine goes to the mansion, then it just becomes a chore of ticking boxes.
>>
>>70306343
It really wasn't, it added very little to anyone except Wolverine.
You could cut those scenes and the characters wouldn't be any different.

>Tried to turn Pyro and Iceman into characters but forgot to actually develop them.
>Wolverine just learns a bit about his past but doesn't change.
>Xavier and Charles remain the same.
>Mystic is into Wolverine, that's the fall depth.
>Storm and Nightcrawler may be into each other, but it doesn't matter as he's missing in the third
>Rouge is just there hanging out
>>
>>70304041
Rewatched last week for the first time in about a decade, it's certainly no masterpiece but it's so much better than modern capeshit that it legitimately made me depressed.

P.s. the original X-Men has got to be one of the scariest capeshit titles other than Hellboy, it's more sci-fi/horror than straight sci-fi

What made X-Men 2 great?

Well, that's because the core conflict is a philosophical conflict between Xavier and Magneto, and the consequences of their conflict affects the whole world.

It's one of the big problems with Civil War, especially when it feels like the Sokovia Accords does not tie into the search and rescue of Bucky Barnes.
>>
>>70306454
Kek, I remember when it first came out my local video store put the original X-men movie in the horror/thriller section because of how scary it was

Singer cannot into romance, literally every romance subplot in X-men has been awkward and forced as fuck, the only half decent romance was the unspoken sexual tension between Rogue and Logan

The fundamental problem with the Xmen movies is they tried so hard to not be a superhero movie they forgot to be anything else. Blade 1 and 2 and Spider-Man 1 and 2 did what they tried to do but much much better.
The first one wasn't even too good at the time, X-2 was but like >>70306193 say's, so much of the movie is redundant.
>>
If you think Storm and Nightcrawler's relationship was supposed to be a budding romance, you might be borderline retarded.

You clearly haven't seen any movies if you think the x-men movies are some how a highlight of film making. They aren't even a high light of the genre.

Many of those scenes consist of no character development, no exposition, no world building. They aren't even used to explore most character interactions. It's always just more of the same. If it weren't for Valkyrie and Apt Pupil I wouldn't believe Singer is capable of directing a great movie.

That's pretty based of her. She could have worn the white dress she wears in the comics and nobody would have bitched, but she went above and beyond to make her performance and character much more memorable.

I will give you this, they are better then Fantastic 4 and Catwoman.

The reality is they were good when your a kid, but they were quickly outdone buy everyone else and have aged terribly.
They were okay action for the late 90s early 00s and that's it. They are still watchable, but that's it.

The writing and execution. Kirsten Dunst was miscast but beyond that they are pretty much flawless. The problem with X-2 is that when things work they work really really well, but those scenes are few and far between. I really think X-2 is held in such high regard because of nostalgia.
Spider-Man 2 wasn't just a great superhero movie it was a genuinely great movie.

Regardless of how you feel about these movies, can we at least all agree this franchise needs a complete reboot if it's going to continue.

I'll agree that X2 struggles to juggle it's over 9000 characters and subplots but I still think it's one of the best cape movies even without nostalgia goggles, other than the slightly outdated special effects I think it would still get pretty high reviews if it were released today instead of 13 years ago.

I actually find it a better film then TDK due to the fact that the TDK just crash and burns pace wise in the last 30 mins. But I understand not everyone thinks as highly of Begins as I do.

But that was the best thing about X2's massive subplots and characters. It was like a comic book story in big screen.

I would have to share your opinions there, the end is so forced and seems like Nolan wasn't sure how to end an otherwise good movie you would think Marvel made it.
Begins has a lot of good qualities, and I think if perhaps better polished would have been the best of the Nolan Batman movies.
>>
Im still mad at them casting J. "I can't fucking act for shit" Lawrence for Mystique.

Mystique is supposed to be the embodiment of grace, sexyness and like her fucking name suggests, mistery.
In the recent movies she is literally a useless whinning little shit with 0 purpose other than "muh internal struggles."

Isn't it all the same canon/sequel anyway? I don't read comics, I personally hate how they have so many multiverses and are unable to let shit go. For example, Venom dies, but gets a new host, then another host, then eddie brock gets another symbiote or some retarded shit.

But I guess they gotta keep putting crap out to make money.

Mite b cool, considering how successful Daredevil, Gotham and BLACKED have been I could imagine a similar series based around the X-men being GOAT, at least that way they'd have enough time to give some character development to their massive cast of characters
>>
>>70308389
If it makes you feel any better, Eddie Brock got rid of that new symbiote and now has someone else's.
He's also a full villain again, except when he's not and Peter Parker is Bruce Wayne.

Also Peter died again.
But he came back because he never truly died.
Also Doc Oc was Spider-Man.
There was also a Goblin King and army of Green Goblins.
Peter Parker has one of the biggest Tech businesses in the world. A surprising amount of time is spent watching him run in.
Eddie Brock is now Toxin, who was some new character who was the son/spawn of Venom an Carnage. He is an extra roided up Venom essentially.

JLaw's tune regarding continuing with the franchise has changed lately. She's indicated much more willingness & desire to stay on than had previously been suspected.

That being said, she was really very boring in Apocalypse, much more so than in her previous outings, and it wouldn't bother me terribly if she left. Fuck, you could get Romijn back. She's only 43 and still looks fantastic. If she's not so eager to do the bodypaint look anymore because she's had a couple of kids, they could always go for the white dress look.

It was like especially cruel arrows or something that caused a lot of pain and prolonged the animal's suffering combined with them failing to track the animal down and finish it.

I think he'd have cared less if he just found a dead bear in general.

She needed a better angle or something. I mean, strictly speaking, she didn't, but it's a running theme throughout the movies that mutants' powers are often restricted by their own state of mind, and to be in the right state of mind to do what she needed to do, she felt she needed to be outside the plane.
>>
>>70319811
mystique has been shit in every movie. in x2 she can pilot a helicopter, beat up like 15 guys at once, operate the dam control system, and reproduce lady deathstrikes fingerprints all perfectly. also her appearance in first class makes her like 60 years old or something in x2. she is basically a overpowered plot device for every x-men movie.

also it always pissed me off that singer wanted all the x-men in black outfits cuz muh realism, but it was totally fine to have a bright blue naked mary sue doing back flips and sliding under tables and strangling people with her feet.
>>

If you don't like what the films did with the character, fine, but this reads like a list of nitpicks.
>also it always pissed me off that singer wanted all the x-men in black outfits cuz muh realism, but it was totally fine to have a bright blue naked mary sue doing back flips and sliding under tables and strangling people with her feet.
The black leather has always struck as being due to lack of budget. And X1 and 2 were released in a time when comic book movies were thought of as silly.
>>
>>70311059

Ratner could have done a movie where wolverine and storm try to set the time on a VCR, everyone came in hyped from the 2nd one. This is why last stand did so well, cause X2 hyped everyone up so much.

that makes no sense and the two most recent x-men movies had black suits and big budgets
>>
>>70320225

Because they did finish the job. The shot it and let it suffer. He killed Jean as a mercy killing, she was suffering too. It mirrors the mercy killing of last stand, as wolverine kills the bear.
>>
>>70322511
It's not colors, but making a number of colored suits that are unique and look good. With Batman, we're sometimes lucky to get one good suit.
>the two most recent x-men movies had black suits and big budgets
I'm talking about the first two films, but it's true that Singer doesn't have an eye for this stuff either. I wish they'd at least revert to the blue and gold. That said, it isn't something that makes me hate the films.
>>
>>70322621
Im saying, why would he care whether or not the arrows are illegal?

Because they are illegal for a reason, he wants to do things the right way, the legal way, but it's struggle when he knows he could just kill them all himself. No more dumb fucks using hurting bears for no reason. The poison also foreshadows Vipers role as well.
>>

He did not cared much about them being illegal, he just mentions that they are. He was angry about them poisoning the bear (wich was basically his neighbour), not finishing the job wich caused several human deaths.
>>
>>70323475
Yeah, but if that is in fact the point, it's dumb and totally out of character for Wolverine. Even if we are to accept that Wolverine had a change of heart and no longer kills (which is as perverse to me as Batman killing guys), that would never be motivated by what is deemed right by the law. That is antithetical to the character. Makes zero sense.

Which is why the line stands out to me as ridiculous. He's not Judge Dredd.
