Remember, Stewart was only 59 when he first played Professor X. If you put McAvoy in 1983 and had him live through those seventeen years, he'd be 54. Pretty close (Fassbender would be 56 to McKellan's 61). Sophie Turner played Jean at age 19, which is how hold Famke Janssen was in that year. So, all things considered, they did a pretty decent job. Now, Charles & Erik are both older than their actors (they'd be 68 & 70 in 2000), but that was just as much the case with Stewart & McKellan as McAvoy & Fassbender.
