Wouldn't the gravitational pull of the Earth bring the ray into an orbiting path?

I bet you kick your dog

well that depends on what the gun is actually shooting

if it's really a laser, then A, but the beam would have spread out a little by the time it leaves the atmosphere
>>

Depends on the velocity.

Earth's gravity isn't strong enough to bend light, so A is the right answer.

Gravity affects space-time which in turn affects the ray by proxy. Gravity doesn't directly influence the ray.

Depends on velocity. It will inevitably curve under Earth's gravity, but how noticeable is not established.

Also, I think without extra meanuevering it can't really enter proper orbit, but I'm not sure.

>light doesn't have mass

We've known light has mass for MORE THAN A CENTURY at this point, nimrod.
>>
>>70298045
Wrong dipshit

Why do you think we say "light" when we mean the opposite of heavy?
>>
>>70293239

Photons travel at the speed of light, which is much, much faster than the escape-velocity of the planet Earth.
>>
>>70293148
It's A, with the understanding that the curvature of A is simply too slight to be seen in the graphic. The more the mass of the earth increases the more the curvature of space makes the path of the laser appear to curve from a third party perspective (although it remains straight in reality). A for an earth with a realistic mass, B for an earth with a mass great enough to cause sufficient curvature to "bend" the light in the illustrated path.

>light doesn't have mass

Yes it does.

In fact, the island of Manhattan actually weighs about 300 lb.s in total more on a sunny day than it does on a cloudy night due to the increase in that many square miles being bombarded by photons, which impart their momentum, which is a quality of mass.

I am not bullshitting here. This is 100% true.

The answer is A, because impulsive force (of the Earth's gravity) is dependent on time, and light moves so fast that the impulse that gravity can impart on the photon before it moves away is basically nothing.
>>
>>70298236
That's not mass doing that m8
>>
In reality? A.

But this is textbook gravitational lensing. As the mass of the earth increases the graph starts to look more and more like B.

>>
>>70298236

Is that with whatever the median rain fall's weight was removed?
>>
>>70298365
It will only look like B beyond the event horizon of a black hole
>>
>>70298233
Exactly.

Which is why the first guy is wrong. Gravity is the result of mass warping space-time. Read a book.

You can't impart momentum if you don't have mass, shithead.
>>
>>70293531
