I honestly would call Breakfast Club one of the most culturally destructive films ever made.

Ferris Bueller by contrast is culturally toxic. I legitimately feel sorry for any (white) person that grew up watching either of these films.

Monsters Inc

I don't need to argue with people on the internet because I have good self-esteem. I don't need to bicker childishly in order to prove something to some anonymous poster on an image board who thinks he knows anything about film or criticism for that matter. The definition of overrated the poster believe's in is flawed in the sense he believes a film that is "mainstream" is overrated and "pleb tier". A films popularity doesn't mean it has any less value. He provided zero real criticism of the film in question, so why should I argue with someone who has provided no thoughts?

What I said is that it's pleb tier, that plebs like it, that's it's popular. That comment wasn't about the film itself. I even said it was a good movie.

But you're so triggered by the fact that I don't think Blade Runner is GOAT that you can't comprehend this

High fantasy is the most derivative genre that it destroyed the entire film for me, and Tolkein is arguably the one who popularized its current version. It wouldn't be what it is today without him. But still, I'm so fucking sick of elves with pointy ears and redhead dwarves and wizards and orcs.

Not gonna list my top five films because you'll meme me out into next week, but im going to assume, mistakingly, that you actually care what I think and arent going to circle jerk a reply.

I have a degree in music composition and I regret it, because music turned into anti-music, "twelve tone" noise or 4' 33" of silence that degraded beauty in the art, technical prowess or went out of it's way to be awful as a statement. I feel Drive is similar, The story was drawn out to the point of being blurred, everything from the sctript to the visuals felt diluted, and it was only broken by sudden edgy hyper violence. I'm not gonna shit on the soundtrack because thats subjective, but I dont believe Neon Noir visuals make for good film. The film was well made, but it was awfully executed. Literal long shots of Ryan Goslings face and planned silences ruined and dragged out the film to the point of it being absolute shit. There was nothing in terms of character development or story telling, it was just try hard "intresting visuals and music" that SCREAMS anti-film garbage that "snobs" love to jump on. It felt like a Jackson Pollock Painting, there was no structure, just a collage of colors, synths, music, violence and Ryan Goslings face.

Please prove me wrong, I wanna hear an actual explanation.

>>
>>70302098

>I have a degree in music composition
>"twelve to e" noise or 4' 33" of silence

what the fuck are you talking about?

and did you not think the opening scene was clever and highly plausible? that alone provides enough realistic weight for gosling's character, and convinces the audience that there are or could be people who look and act like him. the silences and dialogue are inherent to the believability of that character, if he were iron man quipping all the time it wouldn't make any sense.

for as pretentious as you sound, i'm frankly baffled that you can't appreciate a minimalist movie such as drive, a movie intentionally made in a non-standard way in terms of "character development" or "story-telling" as you say. i bet you hated american psycho too?
>>
>>70302193
Yep, expected that. No im not pretentious, i just shat on "post modern classical" and your little Drive film, by your veiwpoint im a pleb, and as much as you try to be a contrarian, someone disliking something you like is too much to handle.
>>
>>70302342
I actually enjoyed the opening scene, and thats part of why it was so dissapointing when it fell apart. I understand the point of the style and I thoroughly enjoyed American Psycho and it's disjointed narrative and focus. Drive felt like it was trying too hard at it though, It was not completely minimalist, it switched back and forth between that and just a film about a hyperviolent criminal. I understand that it was non-conventional but i feel like it went too far and crossed the line into trite, tryhard "modern art"

That said, thank you for actually responding like someone who gives a fuck about movies. As for what i was talking about, 12 tone is music that is randomized and has no melody and just utilizes every note on the spectrum in a random sequence, 4' 33" is a piece of music that gets played on large audience that is literally 4 minutes and 33 seconds of silence so the audience will listen to the ambient noises, which is fine, but it's accliamed as pure art.
>>
>>70302345

>I'm not pretentious but I mentioned my degree in music when it had absolutely no relevence
>Liking Drive makes you a contrarian

are you legit bi-polar or something?
>>
>>70302503

there's something inside you

>>
>>70302533
It did have relevance, I was explaining that Drive, to me, feels like it's part of the circlejerk that exists when something that makes no sense or is "abstract" is some higher form of art that normal people "don’t understand." It's been a plague of every form of art and i explained why I have a prejudice against it. That in of itself could make me wrong, but everyone proves my point but not even bringing it up and dismissing me over my character instead of the movie itself.

The amount of people in /tv/ who think The Matrix is a 10/10 masterpiece would surprise you

Blade Runner is the only perfect movie in existence.

The Shawshank Redemption. It's ok, not even close to the best ones ever as it seems to be for average people.

Also all John Hughes movies are overrated shit.

This is easily the worst movie people pretend is good. If this movie had been released in the 80's it wouldn't even be remembered.
>>
>>70312033
I agree. I like the long take at the end and thats about it really, and the sets I guess, they looked "real" which alot of apocalyptic things get very wrong.

I can't watch it. Teachers at school would always play this when they ran out of shit to teach. Watched it so many times that I can't bear to watch it again. It's just a slideshow of shit boomers would remember tied together with a love story simple enough that mongoloids could relate to it.

That was Braveheart for me. I recall in Monday assembly meetings we'd get a reverend in to talk sometimes, he had a projector one time and showed that last scene in Saving Private Ryan where Tom Hanks is shooting the tank and planes fly over, and he says "our guardian angels". The reverend took this literally and said they it was literally angels sent by god at that moment to kill the Nazis because they were bad. Cannot enjoy the movie without being reminded of this.

In elementary school, the teachers kept playing fucking Home Alone, a movie I always disliked

In highschool, the movies were more varied, although Saving Private Ryan was probably the most played. I liked Private Ryan, so it was fine with me
>>
>>70314705
Fuck you asshole. Balrog is incredible, Nazguls are incredible, if anything CGI in movies hasn't got any better since LOTR.
>>
>>70308743
Kind of underrated, which seems weird, because by now, what used to be a cult following, has occupied a lot of space on the internet. But truly, weighed against other 2000s comedies that get insane attention (anchorman, napoleon dynamite, wedding crashers) it is underrated.
>>

What are you on about? The original saw was a legitimately good movie that didnt work off shock power
>>
>>70316665
>legitimately good movie
It got mediocre reviews and only gets praise as the good one of the franchise because it was some big achievement they managed to make it on a budget. The plot is just as stupid as the rest in the series and it's still less of a horror movie than it is a gorefest.
>>
>>70315647
if you don't like braveheart you aren't a man. this is literally proven science.

if you can't relate to that movie you are a woman, a child, or just a nu-male sissy faggot
>>
>>70316040
how many of these replies are bait, and how many people on /tv/ have objectively shit taste? there are a lot of movies you could argue are overrated, but terminator? I don't think i've ever met someone that didn't at least think it was a good movie. Top 10 movies of all time or something? OK you can make some good arguments against that but I never heard anyone making such a claim so i dunno wtf you are on about faggot
>>
>>70317084
Slow down chief, I didnt say I didnt like it, I said that was the movie that repeatedly got played in class. Braveheart and Troy.

hmm i think i'm gonna go watch troy again. i remember thinking the fight scenes in that movie were amazing, but i wonder if they were just unique at the time and they look goofy now.

I remember thinking brad pitt must be a good actor to be a convincing tough guy, because he never seemed to be before that
>>
>>70286399
Cameron is the only good part of that movie. It's a straight up bad movie on all other accounts.
