I haven't watched this new one but I remember watching the old one in High School. I didn't think of it solely as a racial story, rather it being a story of perseverance and struggle with identity. People who talk about these things strictly because of the racial overtones should be disregarded. They are simply looking to knock down the low hanging fruit.
