I believe Patrice O'Neals take on it where he theorized that Paul Mooney (who is notoriously sensitive to how black comedians are perceived by society and just plain doesn't like white people in general) "got" to Dave and basically convinced him that he was making clowns of black people. This would explain how the "laugher" incident got to him so much and why he gave some offers to Comedy Central that he would continue the show if they gave like 50% of the DVD sales money to charity so he would feel better about giving back to the community or whatever.
