Non-Blizzfan here

Google tells me Magni is a dwarf king so maybe he was there? There were some dwarves but they weren't named.

Anyway the human king Llane summoned the leaders of the other races and nations to ask for their help in the war against the orcs, they said "no fuck you" and disappeared until the end of the movie when they came to Llane's funeral and formed the Alliance to fight against the orcs in the sequel.

They are in like 2 scenes. Mostly sitting at a table doing nothing, and their CGI looking really out of place.

They honestly should have just made the entire movie CGI, or made an animated series.

Confirmed for not knowing shit.
To name a few:

>Orgrim is now Frostwolf
>Garona is no longer bound by Gul'dan's magic
>Garona's love interest in Anduin Lothar
>Durotan actually seeking the help of humans
>>

>>70237060
How are they not relatively minor things to help adapt to screen rather than game though?

If those are your complaints it seems like you're actively looking for things to dislike.
>>
>>70237060

>Garona is no longer bound by Gul'dan's magic
Could you explain that? I seem to remember the movie mentioning that Gul'dan used the fel to revive her, hence why she is green. Presumably she is just as under Gul'dan's power as any other fel orc.
>>
>>70237208
>I assume LOTR did too
Not really. People read the books, but the general public didn't know much about it.
>>
Watched it this morning and enjoyed it.

The cgi looks so much less jarring than the trailers and infamous screencaps have suggested, and that's even after the cinema fucked up and showed it in 3D after selling it as a 2D screening.

The story pacing issues people have had with the speed are understandable at the beginning, but I'd prefer that to far too much exposition.

There are Easter eggs for wow players, but they're integrated well - things like a dungeon meeting stone and a murloc in the background, panning over Redridge etc. Nothing that feels too forced or alienating to non-players.

Dominic Cooper falls a little flat, but he's Dominic Cooper so that's hardly a surprise. And his screen time is minimal.

It doesn't follow the lore to a T, but it's an adaptation. It gets across the major points it needs to without major fuckery to it.
If Dalaran floating or the finer points of Medivh's dealings with Sargeras buttblast you enough to give you a negative perception of the movie then you're exactly the type of person the stigma against the movie is born from.

It's not clever, or deep. It's not gritty or realistic.
It's fun and it's flashy and it's entertaining and that's exactly what I was hoping for and expecting from it.
>>
I heard that studio forced them to cut more than 40min of the film.
>>
>>70237945
I don't think it's that there is a finished 2 hr 40 min version that was then chopped up by the studio, it's just that the studio were only willing to give a certain amount of money and they couldn't afford any more cgi.

>>
>>70237863
Fucking this, describes my impression perfectly.
Go see that shit. Movies haven't been so unafraid to have genuine fun in a long time.
>>
Watched it today and i have to agree with more or less everything >>70237863 anon said.

The only thing to add is I'm not a huge wow player i knew bits like guldan is bad and the fel is bad but other then that i was able to follow the plot of the film pretty well.

The best thing i can say about this film in regards of other "block busters" are that this film actually has stakes in it so i ended up alot more invested for that reason plus how well they played the orcs off.

Characters you get attatched to either die or turn bad and i guess those who play the game know that going in but for me i didnt know so many would be killed off and none of them feel cheap (bar one in perticular) and they're done not for the shock but to match the theme of the film.

Watching it in imax definately helps but I dont get the negative hate. Yeah it has problems but so did other films that get a pass so i really would stress watch the film yourself and you might end up as surpised as i am

Can anyone find a link to Duncan Jones saying that there is 40 minutes cut from the movie?

Over the past few weeks I've been shamelessly watching every interview he's given on the Warcraft promotion tour, and I follow him on twitter. There is plenty of reference to directors cut, dvd extras, scenes cut for budgetary reasons etc. but I can't find the 40 minutes figure.
>>
>>70240939
Found it here
http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2016/05/28/duncan-jones-on-showing-dad-david-bowie-warcraft-he-was-all-excited-for-me-and-happy.html

>Alas! When Jones whittled down his 2 hour and 40 minute cut to the final runtime of just over two hours, ā€œwe werenā€™t able to keep it in the cut. But somehow, maybe, Iā€™ll just sneak it into the Twitterverseā€¦ he did a Warcraft-medievally version of his single, and itā€™s just brilliant. Unfortunately I was the only one who thought it was hilarious.ā€

It's a paraphrase by Daily Beast journalist rather than direct quote. I've never heard him say anything like that in other interviews.

Basically the original story of Warcraft was changed to appeal to mainstream movie audiences.

Regular people don't give a shit about this and the only one's who will see it are WoW players at this point anyway. All the reviews I see from WoW people say its great when all the lore changes fuck up the story immensely from the source material.

UK fag, just got back from IMAX.

Orcs look incredible. Haven't seen better looking CG characters period. The world design and art elevate the CG to beautiful levels however the live action characters and props suffer occasionally due to the heavy use of green screen and so many digital assets.

Anybody calling the effects 'bad' is trying too hard to shit on the movie. Like it/hate it, the special effects are incredible. It is very big, very bright and very colorful, which I think is fitting for a Warcraft movie. Magic looks powerful and the sound design hits all the marks.

Occasionally the movie screams cheese but I was surprised at how little I cringed.
Sometimes I wish it would take its self less seriously and other times I wanted it to ground itself deeper and linger on a poignant moment a little longer.

Needed an extra 30mins for world building and the world looked so..fantastical, I wanted to see more of it and brought closer to the people I was supposed to care about.

Biggest bad ass of the movie was a gryphon - that scene was crunchy. Durotan looks real. More real than some of the human characters.

And lastly - For the rating it had some pretty dark scenes. The intro with the draenei looking like Holocaust victims as Gul'dan drains their souls was impactful and the battle scenes have some great moments. Another scene with Guldan torturing a prisoner for literally keks, or like an old guy sipping on some cognac was one of the most brutal things I've seen, really really well done bad guys.

Overall great fantasy and I'd take it over another fucking Super Hero movie any day.
8/10.

Yeah, that's pitiful. The embargo's up and it's sitting at sub-25% on the normies' handbook site for what they should waste their money on this summer.

When it opens in the U.S. people won't give a second glance to that horribly rated children's movie about a 10-year old video game.

Seen it once in medium sized 3d, was a bit distracted by guy next to me on phone, so want to go again:
Ā£55 travel+ticket for IMAX 3d in London (biggest screen in UK!)
or
Ā£25 travel+ticket for 2d.

The good thing about IMAX is that it's so loud, the screen is so big, and the seating is so steep, you dont really get distracted by other people.

Choices.

I also enjoyed it a lot. Tbh I am a big lore fag and I didn't mind the changes they made to the lore THAT much.

I just wish they had got someone better to play King Llane.

Mankrik's wife.
>>
Just watched the movie less than 30 mins ago and have been playing Wacraft games since Vanilla then backpedalling to the older ones.

Tbh the Movie is a faithful capturing of the plot of the Original Warcraft and the things they change are either for expedience or to avoid bombarding the audience with exposition more than they already have; considering the fact these films are at least 50% in order to get more people involved in Warcraft who aren't already fans this is a pretty big necessity.

Spoilers:
No fel blood, boo hoo. That would have added another 30 mins to the film just explaining WHY.

tl;dr they keep everything that counts and cut/leave ambiguous things that aren't important or would take too long to explain like how Medivh is corrupted by Fel Magic and no mention is made of Sargaeras

yea i can forgive that since its obviously been the plan since the beginning and Duncan had 0 choice in the matter and something tells me it was probably supposed to be closer to the original story since Duncan is more of a fan of the rts series and not WoW, but then Metzan/hollywood got their hands on it.

Was in Odeon Leicester square. The phone guy came in late. The usher was vigilant about phone use when the lights first when down, but I think it stopped looking after that.

I hate confronting people like that because it almost takes me more out of the movie than I already was due to light distraction, but I had to say something in the end.

So how exactly would Duncan fit Warcraft 2 into a single film? It's been a while since I've played that one, but isn't it pretty big? Do you think he'd focus more on Beyond the Dark Portal?
>>

Honestly if you wanted to fit everything in it would have to be 2.

If you wanted to do WC3 you would probably need 5 to fit everything in.

How are war movies usually set up?
How many battles can you fit in one?

Key things you should show.
>Forming of the Alliance
>Alterac
>Uther becoming the first Paladin
>Lothar dying.
>Doomhammer going after Gul'dan.

I guess rebellion at Tyrs Hand and how it ties into Alterac.
I'd like to see the Ironforge siege, going back time to time to see how it progresses, then seeing it lifted.

How the trolls, goblins and ogres become part of the horde could probably be shown in dialogue with the formation of the alliance.

You need a sea battle.

It was a very beautiful movie. Everything looked great, except that shot of Blackhand snapping the black dude's neck. But mostly flawless visuals. Although I don't like the style of the high elves. They came off as off as creepy.

Also, as much as I love Lord of the Rings, it was nice to see a fantasy film where the fantastical elements weren't understated but were blatant and everywhere.

Story was nonsense. You could feel the weight of 22 years of legacy bearing down on what ought to have been a very simple story. Personally would have rathered a brief prologue of the first and second war and jump right into Thrall in the internment camps if they were going the noble orc route. Trying to reconcile the tone of Warcraft 3 onwards with the plot of the first game just didn't work for me.

Also waaay too many sequel hooks, some that won't be resolved until film 4 or 5 if they're going to continue loosely following the game plots.

Its fucked

everything is fucked

they are going to have to make up the entier story

Warcraft 1 is about the horde entering Azeroth and destroying stormwind which makes everyone led by Lothar to sail towards Lordaeron which was in the northern part of the continent

Warcraft 2 tides of darkness is the horde rampaging through the entirety of Eastern kingdom up to Lordaeron where the Alliance start to fuck them up and push them back to the Dark Portal. Theres barely any plot at all

The reason this happened was in part casue gul dan who had awaken from the coma that medivh exorcism had gone to the tomb of sargeras after pledging mercy to Ogrim who had wiped a chunk of Guldan's clan which he found throuhg torturing Garona (garona was a Guldan agent) to find the artifact called the Eye of Sargeras which would help him summon the legion and Ogrim sends a bunch of forces and delays the invasion of Lordaeron to kill him

Also theres no nerzul which is the one who becomes the leader of a good chunk of the horde nor shadow council which was central since they helped nerzul in beyond the dark portal expansion

The plot of nerzul is extremely important because the entire expansion follows his actions and he is the one that causes the scourage and pretty much almost everything that happened in W3

Like if this movie is barely warcraft the next ones if they are made are not going to have absolutely anything to do with the games.
>>
>>70247839
They could introduce Ner'zhul in the second. Kargath and Grom were in this one as background characters, but not really doing anything, just waiting to be used in the sequels. Speaking of, why does Kargath look like he does in Warlords of Draenor? Shouldn't he be green not grey?
>>
>>70248014
Nah its already fucked

Kargath didn't exist in warcraft

Grom did

Regardless of whatever the fuck they do, they changed shit so much its impossible to adapt the other games

They should just not make more movies wait some time and make Warcraft 3 human campaign full CGI movie
>>
>>70237863
Oh man please tell me it sets up for 2 perfectly
My fantasy is this one does well enough to get a sequel, the sequel either flops or does extremely well, because it has the potential to do both, and then they're guaranteed to do a 3rd one, and the 3rd one would be the best because it would cover Outlands, Arthas, Illidan, and all that good shit
It's all I fucking want
