Plenty of people didn't like it.
The film was the victim of a terribly marketing campaign, that sold it as this incredible scary, visceral horror, when in fact it was a slow-paced psychological drama. For people looking for a funny scare movie, it was a huge letdown.
I mean, I personally loved it, I thought the atmosphere was really well crafted and the sets, costumes, etc. were great. However I certainly understand why it got such bad word of mouth shortly after coming out. People don't like bait-and-switches.
