Why did that stop him from killing the evil alien that destroyed a city? Why let your enemy regain his composure with a single word when he clearly knows who you are?
>>
>>70179088
Mostly because it was too abrupt.
I get what they were trying to do; Batman realizes that Superman isn't some faceless space monster, but that he's got parents and people who love him too.
By killing him, he'd be just as bad as Joe Chill, robbing someone of a loved one in cold blood.

I get it.

That said, the fact that they go from trying to stab/murder each other to best buddies in the blink of an eye is just sloppy. It was a decent idea, but it was executed poorly so we could just get to the destruction.

Inherent problem with the setup really.

Batman spent years plotting to kill Superman, utterly convinced that he was dangerous to mankind, only to completely 180 because their mother's share a name.

The only way it would work is if the name forged just enough common ground for batman to listen to what Superman has to say in conversation. But you can't have a $200 million film end in two characters talking things out, so Synder completely trapped himself.

No. Not really. Especially since being apart from Pepper doesn't matter much in the film (same with the whole son of the black lady thing, even /m/ makes fun of that cliche with a character from gundam). Plus he was "friends" with Tony, amongst the other things I said. The fight scene was good, though, Bucky jobbing aside.

>Jeremy Irons, who plays Alfred Pennyworth in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, recently spoke out about director Zack Snyder's comic book flick, calling it a "very muddled" movie.

>When asked by the Daily Mail (via TheWrap) about the slew of negative reviews the film received, Irons said Batman v Superman was "deservedly" criticized, noting "it took $800 million, so the kicking didn’t matter but it was sort of overstuffed."

Can't wait to get Affleck's and Cavill's uncensored opinions on this train wreck in a year or two.

No you don't. You're regurgitating what everyone else is saying to explain the scene. They arent even right.

You're focusing on the movie from a literal standpoint. Batman and Superman do not fight to see who would win the fight. Watch the movie again to actually see who is fighting when they're staring each other in the face.

Fuckin holy hell everyone is a pleb
>>
>>70179647
The movie sets up batman as someone who's lost his way. 20 years of being batman and he hasn't made a damn bit of difference.

He thinks that beating superman will be the only thing that matters so he feverishly sets to beat him so he can finally make a differenc.

The minute Martha name is mentioned it jars him and he realises what he's become, I don't think they become friends like the way you mean. Bats goes of to "save" Martha in doing so hoping to redeem himself at failing to save his own mother.

Batman is insane and he's fanatically chasing after goals to prove that he isn't a useless piece of shit that let his mother die

We don't really know much about movieverse Wonder Woman yet, other than she's 100+ years old and doesn't seem to age. But going by the comics she's either a clay baby that was given life and superpowers by the Greek gods, or possibly an actual daughter of Zeus.

70s Wonder Woman was Cap-teir, but in the 80s they power-creeped her to be on par with Superman, and she's stayed that way through multiple incarnations.

Great analysis. I think most people are probably unaware of the undertones that both characters are fated to be great and work together, which is why their mothers had the same name. It is accepted that there are "greater powers" in the DC universe some would call magic (see Ras Al Ghul). I also believe that Bruce's first experience where he was carried by the bats was NOT a dream, but over time, it was the only way his rational mind could process the experience. Something so amazing would lend greatly to inspiring a youth. Fate and Destiny, without a doubt, are large factors in this universe.

Noone raised Clark to be a hero. His father died because he didn't want to be saved by him and his mother told him he is not obliged to do anything with his powers either.
Also, Clark doesn't like saving people. Not once do you see him smile or not looking like he really would like to be somewhere else. The only person he enjoys saving is Lois since she gives him poon. On that subject, he really didn't even care that Lois' work colleague was in danger. He just went to save only her.

All of us are raised to be heroes. All our parents raise us to step up and rise to the occasion. The difference with Clark is that once he reveals what he is and what he can do, there's no going back from that. Jonathan understands this and understands what a game-changer that will be for humanity. Jonathan is giving Clark time to grow mature enough to bear up beneath the weight of the expectations that all humanity will thrust upon him, to stay his course and trust his moral compass to see him through, and most importantly, to make his own decisions.
>>
>>70189415
Even worse, since he lacks all humanity you don't care about his death either.
This could have been easily avoided too. They could have included a scene with him bringing back a flown away balloon to a child and then show him actually smiling at the kidir simething like that. You know, small things that show us that he actually likes being a superhero.

Let me throw something at you that just occurred to me. Isn't the last thing the bus driver did before they hit the water was open the bus's door? If the kids at the front had been "heroes" or even just not panicky animals, shouldn't there have never been a need to push the entire bus out of the water to begin with?

Maybe the point is that if everyone were doing their part, Clark would never have had to go to "super heroic" lengths in the first place.

That was a win-win for Lex, but only if Clark had killed Bruce. When Bruce was on the other end of that call, Lex knew he was completely screwed.

Under more favorable circumstances, Lex would have sent his "Justice League" out to either kill Doomsday with dead Bruce's k-weaponry, or to apprehend or kill Clark, now a fugitive for the murder of Bruce.

That's right. He would do more harm to humanity by saving them than he would by not saving them.

When the "stop" sign on the side of a bus swings out(at least back in the 80s and 90s), it means the door's been opened. When it comes out of the water, the door's already opened.

It wasn't all bad, the plot and dialogue aren't the best but the music was good and the movie looked gorgeous. You can't take that away from Snyder, he makes pretty images. The problem is just that the movie is slow build up to a final act that looks like shit and is confusing, and after all the cgi clusterfuck climax (that has great music though), you get a drawn out epilogue.

The problem isn't that movies aren't power point presentations. He can set up a single shot that looks good but in motion everything looks like ass.

I disagree. The batman arkham scene was excellent motion. Same goes for the supe savior montage. The only thing that really looked like ass was doomsday and the island fight.

MoS and BvS just feel like huge fuckall soulless commercials. Snyder can make pretty pictures, sure, in the same way JJ makes fun remix playlist films. It's style. The difference is Snyder asks you to look deeper into his work and when you do you only find confused ugliness.
>>
>>70199369
It worked in MoS, it feels like he tried to take it up notch in BvS and overdid it.
>>70199435
>huge fuckall soulless commercials
That's how I'd describe almost every marvel movie. Except for Cap and Iron man 1, and GotG. Everything else is lazy cashgrabs. MoS and BvS are kinos, or great films, Amy Whatever and Russel Crowe sucked ass and dragged the movies everytime they're on the screen, but I still find them entertaining with some memorable pieces.

>but Superman could recover
He had the Kryptonite spear 2 inches from Superman's face.

Wayne is fighting Kal more out of emotional rage than anything (Affleck's acting and his various u-not-a-man speeches hint at this). So he's already fighting out of anger, and hearing Supes saying that he could SAVE Martha (not just hey bro my mom's Martha lmao) is what sends him over the edge. After all, the super advanced and overpowered space alien might know how to revive dead people or some shit. How the hell would he know?
>>
>>70199691
Agreed. There were parts that were interesting but not for a Superman film. If you're going to deconstruct something you have to redefine it as well. This requires an awareness and appreciation for whatever you're tearing apart. He made some badass pieces but they don't it together into what a Superman story should be.
This thread and the couple others up right now show that this wasn't meant to be a story but a coded corporate ritual, a commercial, which is fine but don't fucking use Superman if that's what you're doing. It perverts everything the character means to people.

You know another angle that someone pointed out about that scene the other day that hadn't occurred to me? When Bruce has his Man-Bat nightmare, we see Martha's name on her vault, but his dad's name is obscured by flowers. This scene is already heavy with insight into Bruce's character and psychology, but one angle I'd never considered is that his whole career could basically be interpreted as him trying to be the hero and protector that his father failed to be.

Now here he is about to kill this "alien threat," just to hear his own father's dying words(or rather, word) from the lips of his "enemy."
>>
>>70201559
It's possible, but I believe what made Bruce wavers is not the fact that Supe's mother name is the same as Bruce's (it certainly has effect, but not that much), but the fact that Bruce's hated enemy, the one that in his eyes are only but disillusioned, inhumane god, loves his mother. It struck Bruce as very human, and end up relate to him because Bruce thinks that his greatest failure is that he failed to protect his family (i.e. his mother), and Supe's mom having the same name with Bruce's means that he now has his chance of redemption by protecting Superman!Martha, something he's actually do later.

It's pretty childish, thinking protecting another's mom means protecting his lost own, but Bruce's mom killed in his childhood, so it's very possible that he is indeed childish in regards of that.

The main theme of Snyder's "Batman v Superman" on spiritual dematerialism is not eschatological, but a phenomenological ontology. Thus he implies that we have to choose between predialectic construction and deconstructivist neodialectic theory, essentially Heideggerian as seen in the concept of Dasein. The subject is interpolated then into a cinematic dematerialism that includes spirituality as a whole. But if the Kierkegaardian worldview holds, we have to choose between the cultural paradigm of expression and atomism. In Snyder's own "Man of Steel" he has a character says that "the world's too big”. Inherent in this is how the function of Lebenswelt (cinematically translated by Snyder as "world of life") operates in all his films, chiefly in "Sucker Punch" and "300". We see a phenomenological approach to the world showing a cinematic logic that presupposes a strucutral constraint in rootedness, another intentionality central to his filmography and philosophy. Because "metaphysical comfort" is not an object of temporality per se, but rather an aspect of automatic condition, as suggested by Cavell. Hermeneutic interpretations are also apparent in his post-"Watchmen" movies; in fact the interchangeable subjectivities are but another representation of Husserl's and Wittgenstein's "form of life". As his academic hero Heidegger succintly noted, "freedom is the ‘abyss’ of Dasein, its groundless or absent ground". This is essentially the thesis operating in Snyder's films.
