This doesn't surprise me one bit.

I love about 60-75% of Tim's comedy, but that's regardless.

He's made it clear he leans to the left but when it comes to stuff like this he's ardent right.

Weird, though, that he'd do basically a PSA through PBS News...I'm pretty sure he meant it but, even being someone who has occasionally torrented shit, he's right.

Content quality will generally go down the less people put into the type of content that is funded by big production houses or even small shit.

Doesn't surprise me that T&E fans would dislike it, although it has more likes than dislikes by about a third.

Hello friends, my name is Tim Heidecker. Also known as "One of the guys who killed Adult Swim".
>>
>>70155625
You can't blame him for the shitty shows that tried to copy Awesome Show's formula. Besides, I thought Adult Swim died the day they started airing Family Guy and other shows that weren't their original content.
>>
>Instead of making $2m I will only make $1.8m

Hey maybe if people had money in the first place we could pay for your shit.
>>
He's an emblem of the liberal-hypocrite comedian. He's a weak, kitsch, toxic-spewing corporate shill, a minion of Cinco. He's everything he's ever satirized and held himself higher than. BOOM!
>>
>>70155671

Family guy single-handedly brought Adult Swim to life alongside Aqua Teen Hunger Force and then later shows like Harvey Birdman and Tom Goes To The Mayor.
They would rerun every single Family Guy when I was in high school which was basically 2005-2009ish and I stopped watching a year after I graduated.
They are STILL rerunning that shit last time I turned on AS and now they are trying to do things more digitally but are finding out the hard way that their own platform will make marginally less than YT's with adsense and all that JAG.
>>
>>70155671
>I thought Adult Swim died the day they started airing Family Guy and other shows that weren't their original content

They were doing that from the beginning though, with stuff like Home Movies and Oblongs. The shift to Seth Macfarlane/live action takeover was just when they realized they could get just as many (if not more) viewers with a fraction of the effort and money.
>>
>>70155731
>>70155766
Ah my bad, I'm Canadian so I didn't grow up with Adult Swim. I didn't know they did that from the start, whenever I visited the US, I'd only watch ATHF, Sea Lab, Space Ghost and Brak.

>>

this, companies make it so fucking hard to do ANYTHING on the internet.
>>
>>70156050

This is pretty much it in a nutshell.

Bandcamp.com has a lot of good "amateur" bands (read: 97% of them since most big labels died in the past ten years or were subsumed).

Those bands get a little money from me because it's only like a couple bucks here or there and I get what I pay for.

I don't have to compulsorily pay my monthly fee of ten bucks even if the content has dropped off. Most of these services want to stream new shit to you and most of it is just that - shit.

If they can just ride the wave and let people pay for the content they want like the music industry decided to do they would start pulling in more money.

But it is pretty much a scam they want to keep forcing upon people because they know they'll pay that other 7 bucks if they think their show is worth paying 3 bucks a month for.

End diatribe.

I honestly try to buy as much content I can from Tim and Eric to support them. I bought their books, I bought whatever, you can think of, but the issue is they only have DVDs of their shows, no Blu-Rays. That's probably why everyone is stealing it- you can get it in higher quality just from torrents than you can from buying it.

Don't blame it on the consumer, Tim- do something about the product, update it instead of keeping it in a format from the early 2000s. I WANT to buy even more of your stuff but you just won't let me.

But your wrong. Big productions and art for the masses will make just a tad bit less money but diy and low budget projects will emerge bringing real art up with it.

Also
>we have to pay everybody wahhh

Do you think Tim dips into his pocket to pay the hairdresser cos someone torrented an episode?
Nope, everyone got paid, the actors especially. The one entity that might lose profit is the studio but keep in mind its probably owned by a multibillion company.

I literally turned 18 yesterday and as soon as the time on the clock matched the time I was born, I realized Tim and Eric were not the geniuses I thought they were during my teenage years. They're just stoner comedy guys who do the unconventional/awkward comedy pretty well. So many people list them as an influence because they thought "whoa people didn't do comedy like this before" despite the fact that Andy Kaufman is 30 times better than them.

Most overrated comedians of all time, and I own all three seasons of Brule, and all five seasons of Awesome Show.

I'm not him, but there's an important difference. You are not stealing something, because you're not taking a copy of a DVD that would otherwise be sold to someone else. You are just obtaining a copy for free, not at the expense of the owner of the original DVD. Maybe they miss out on some sales, but they aren't losing product.

It's a gray area where I'm personally undecided, but I just wanted to point out the difference.

This is some retarded logic.
Are you saying if you steal a movie you are only actually stealing the $1.50 of production cost for that single dvd?

Absolutely not. A judge will make you pay for the full price of the dvd plus whatever else in punitive charges.
>>
>>70157045
I didnt steal any DVD

Someone made a copy of a DVD and I downloaded that copy

Where is the theft? The DVD still exists

If you take a photo of a photo did you steal that first photo?
>>
>>70157081
That's not the point.

The point is you are not paying for the materials of the physical product. If you were only paying for a physical product you would only be stealing $2 or whatever to produce that dvd.
Since the item you are stealing cost more than the physical product, it is implied you are stealing something more than just the physical product.

Try and make an argument where getting caught for stealing is cheaper than paying full price. A judge will always make you pay for more than just the physical cost, therefore the product you steal isn't just physical.
Hence, yes you are stealing. Not everything is physical.
And to your second question, yes it actually can be considered theft.
I don't suppose you thought that point out because yes filming a film on a camcorder is illegal.
>>
>>70155671
One of the first things adult swim aired in the US was cowboy bebop.
>>
>>70157220
You keep saying stealing

There's no theft, nothing has been taken
>>
>>70157331
Answer the question than.
If you get caught stealing, should you only be forced to pay the $2 for the DVD case or should you be forced for the retail price?

If you can't come up with an answer than you admit to stealing a non-physical product.
>>
>>70157331
If you're trying to make some belabored point about the contradictions of artificial scarcity, you should get your head out of your ass and realize that the point that it's in no way a novel concept.

And if you have a better, and feasible solution for funding creative work (or any media) in an age where replication cost is vanishing, there are plenty of people who would be interested. Otherwise, you're just acting like an autistic jerk.
>>
>>70157419

>>
>>70157531
You are a thief, plain and simple.
You are stealing entertainment. Most people in this thread can see you have no arguments.

I don't hate you for it. I do the same shit with anime because I don't care about the well being of weebshit like I do with western films but still, you are a thief.
>>
>>70157419
Stealing is not the same as copying you dumbass.

If you get caught stealing a DVD you're going to be forced whatever price the store you stole it from has set.

You aren't stealing anything when you torrent, you're COPYING a file.

Theft = forced removal of the original object.
Torrenting = the original still exists and belongs to the distributor, you just have a copy of it

And honestly, the problem you're making is your attributing monetary value where it doesn't fucking exist. Distributors can walk around all day saying "hurrr muh bluray movie is worth $35" but at the end of the day if everyone is getting it for free anyway, it's clearly not worth that at all

You're using computer terms like it matters in fucking law. It doesn't.
You are stealing the companies right to sell you a product.

Not to mention, a product almost never sells out.
If you steal a dvd it affects no one. The only cost is the $2-$3 for production and shared shipping cost. It is similar with torrenting.
So then, why are you paying extra for it?

Obviously there must be something more than just the physical dvd that is important.

Regardless
>>70157923
The actually semantics don't matter here because if you take a photo of a piece of art and than take a photo of that art it is illegal.
Furthermore it is illegal to take a photo of a photo. Because that means you are reproducing it.
Reproduction through a camera is considered derivative work except in certain circumstances.
Yes look it up.
And film is considered art too. So your argument is doubly bust.

I get your argument but you chose the worse analogy because you are actually wrong, not just for an argumentative perspective but also by the law.

>oh shit people are returning our products! We shouldn't have taken this risk!

You can argue that with free trials people will try more lesser known products therefore promoting creativity. but honestly, 90% of people don't care to try out random shit and will only watch the mainstream shit even if its bad. I feel like I force myself to go to cinemas just for /tv/ and money is definitely not an issue for me.

Yes, obviously there is a difference between digital theft and physical theft. In the case of physical theft, not only are you taking something for free without paying for it, you are also stopping the seller from being able to sell that object to somebody else.
