Remember vhs rental stores? Remember walking down the horror aisle and getting really scared by all the movie covers?

Remember all the snacks they had up near the front?

i worked at one of these shit holes for a few months

from time to time qt's from my past would show up, from high school, community college, etc, and i would puke spaghetti each time

i had to watch black people come in and steal shit all the time and i couldnt confront them per orders by management ("we cant directly imply they stole something; they would be able to sue us")

every single coworker was unbearable except for one chad who was actually pretty cool

literally a nightmare

>and getting really scared
You mean walking down the horror isle and getting raging erections at all the mostly naked women on the cover of every horror movie, right?
>>
>>70144739
There are literally three competing video rental stores still operating in my home town.
>>
>>70145193
I worked at a used DVD store up until about two months ago and I can confirm most of this.

Niggers always either came in to buy obscene amounts of anime, or steal shit. Coworkers are either pretty cool, up their own asses about their movie taste, or are just there for a paycheck.

I liked working there, but jesus you see some weird shit working at a video store.

Blockbuster wasn't even the original mega videostore. That used to be Video Warehouse during the mid 80's. They sold records, tapes, CDs, snacks, soda, candy, magazines, books, rented movies with the biggest betamax section I ever saw. They even rented out VCRs and had shoplifting detectors at the doors that looked like subway platform entrances that you had to push yourself thru. Way better than Blockbuster who catered to new release normies and nobody else.

In 20 years kids are going to be reminiscing about Netflix over their retina-implanted visual array systems, and how great it was to spend an evening staring at the same screen as their buddies back in 2016. How -- while the selection was not quite as good, the image quality was lacking, and how there was no VR support -- Netflix on Smart TVs, computers, tablets and phones were better because it was a more visceral experience.

Old technology and business is awful. Blockbuster was awful. However, I do miss the smell. They had a pretty distinct smell, didn't they?

My town still has a DVD & game rental store. It truly was fun getting to pick out a movie, a game, and a candy and then enjoy them all with my friends all weekend. Nowadays I only go a few times per year out of pity. One thing I've noticed since the mid-2000's is that they're waaaaay more lenient about late fees now lol.

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=jerry-rig
Jerries was a slang term in WW2 for the Germans. Its also where we get the name jerry can from, since it was the Germans that invented them. The Allies actively sought out undamaged jerry cans during the war because they worked so well and the fuel containers the Allies used were poorly made and leaked constantly.

The more you know.

Remember? My family owned one and I had to work there weekends and sometimes nights back when I was in the 6th grade up until I graduated.

It was great, I got to watch whatever movies I wanted for free along with free NES, SNES, Sega games for however long I wanted.

The best part was my family became very rich off of it and they paid for my college with it. My family went from trailer park trash to one of the richest families in town (granted this was only a town of 28,000 people but still).

It sucks it had to be shut down but in the end my family came out way ahead. A lot of people in my life have asked if my family went bankrupt because of it and we didnt. My family in the end had three stores and when one became not profitable they shut it down, to two then just the one. They shut that one down back in 2010 when it finally had finally been in the red for three consecutive quarters. They ended up selling two of the properties for quite a lot of money. All the money they had made and saved all those years when it was super successful was still there.

I dont know why people think video store owners went bankrupt or if they hate netflix. We dont really hate them, the good days of a super successful business went away but for my family we did really good.
