ITT: Episodes that scared you as a child

best spongebob episode to be honest
seriously what the fuck was this
You can probably guess why.
>>70135199
forgot pic
>>70135130
me too desu
Everything by are you afraid of the dark
How did that shit get greenlit, they didn't even close most episodes, I owe many nightmares to that fucking shit
>>70135130
I remember the creepiest spongbebob for me was the one with the ghost, and different characters kept getting caught falling in a bottomless dimension.
I used to watch SBSP all the time but oddly enough I had only seen the episode I'm talking about once
>>70135130
>it's a kromagg episode
I had recurring nightmares about those guys.
This movie I saw on Disney Channel about the boogie man under the bed. I think that's what it was about
>>70135467
>That episode with the alien
Also the one with the monsters in the sewer really fucked me as a kid, I'm pretty sure they were using the kids or something as slave labour so they'd be ready to hatch or something, can't quite remember.
the fucking skit where ernie and bert are in a pyramid, and bert keeps leaving ernie alone with those egyptian statues that look just like them, and the one that looks like ernie keeps tapping ernie from behind with its staff, then freezes again, and ernie freaks the fuck out and calls for bert who doesn't believe him and leaves him alone again, rinse and repeat
that shit gave me horrible nightmares for years
>>70135625
Sup
>>70135130
This was some legit Kubrick shit. This scene scared the fuck out of me as a kid because it was scary to imagine being trapped there
>>70135517
Is this the one where they resurrect some dead film director? That one scared the shit out of me
>>70135682
Fuck you
>>70135130
>Someone thought that an episode about an abusive boyfriend was somewhat ok for kids
Fucking Courage, that cartoon was scarier than a lot of horror movies.
All these episodes are so wierd. How'd they get ok'd? What did the Asians drawing it think about this shit? That Patrick-Bob marrage episode was especially akward as a kid.
>>70135694
this shit freaked me the fuck out. seriously. same with OP, and pic related a tiny bit.
>>70135547
Shanghaied, which I think only aired with specials to fill time.
Anyone remember that episode where he was being chased by his friends but they were monsters and he was stuck in that alternate dimension for years until he finally tricked them and escaped? That episode scared the fuck out of me.
RETUUUURN THE SLAAAAB
>>70136199
I saw this at like 5 am on sci-fi for the first time when I was a kid. Spooky as fuck in those circumstances.
>>70136094
That's actually a good reaction pic
I had to sleep with a nightlight on
>>70135467
Can't believe this fuck was green lit for a children's show. To be fair this episode made me a good swimmer as a kid because I'd always power through laps at my schools pool because I thought it would get me.
>>70138126
I wish I was lucky enough so that AYAOTD gave me anything other than social anxiety

These three episodes never spooked me, but they gave me a really satisfying confused feeling. Some of my favourite cartoon episodes when I was a kid.
>>70135247
This guy was one of the main reasons I loved PPG. Never scared me, though.
There are two cartoon episodes that successfully managed to scare me as a kid.
There was pic related where they traveled to an apocalyptic future, and I'll reply to this post with the other one.
>>70137683
thanks, its all yours, friend
>>70139841
And this episode.I think this is what gave me a hypnosis fetish though
>>70138126
The fucking opening credit for that show used to make me cling to the couch, wouldnt watch it without my parents sometimes.
>>70136615
100% this
the only thing that legitimately scared me
>>70136576
That was the halloween episode. Pretty great segment of television for such a mediocre disney trash show.

Okay I'm freaking out right now
It was either Are You Afraid of the Dark? or Goosebumps. Can't remember. The story was about a piano-playing ghost in the basement. I'm so glad my family didn't have a basement or it would have scared me more than it did.

>>70135517
fucking this holy shit
>>70141368
are you trying to kill me with fear?
>>70138126
The worst part about this episode, beyond the fact that the monster is fucking terrifying for a children's show, is that the episodes premise is this: "You know how sometimes when you're swimming you feel as though something may be in the water with you? Guess what? You're right, and it wants to kill you." That alone made me nervous to swim by myself until I was like 12.
That episode of Rocko's Modern Life where Heffer chokes on a chicken bone, dies and goes to hell always fucked with me
>>70137683
for you
>>70142002
That never creeped me out, Rocko was absurd and weird and stylized too much to be scary.
Great show though. I remember the credit card episode to this day.
Body horror the episode, I couldn't even get this far in the episode as a kid. The squidward torture is what drove me off

This guy from AYAOTD always creeped me out.
>>70142126
I was like 6 when I first saw it. I just remember having nightmares. I think it was the first time I ever encountered "death" as a concept.
This whole episode is the reason I hated taking out the trash at night.

This absolutely terrified me too. Had to turn it off

Scariest THoH segments
>Terror at 5 1/2 Feet
>Bart Simpson's Dracula
>Nightmare Cafeteria
>Nightmare on Evergreen Terrace
Shame the episodes are nothing but violent, wacky what-if fantasies instead of being scary now.
>>70135130
any episoe of Ed Edd n Eddy involving surrealism e.g. the one where they break the sky and reveal TV static behind it
>tfw the show ended because one of the head animators got shot by police
Are there any creepy / unsettling episodes of King of the Hill? I feel like there's one but I can't remember in detail.
>>70144711
That's not an episode.
>>70136168
Is that the 'LEEDLE LEEDLE LEEDLE LEE' and 'perfume department' episode? That aired all the fucking time where I live. I think I saw it more than Chocolate With Nuts or the essay writing episode.

>>70144751
The pigman episode?
>>70136031
it probably has something to do with the fact that at a TV studio in the 90s you could expect to see more snow than fucking Switzerland
this was too much
>>70144836
Yeah, that, but there's some episode in the back of my mind that just "off" and kind of jarring.
>>70144893
there was one i remember where hank starts poopy puffing (smoking logs of his own shit) and peggy and bobby are horrified, but peggie tries it too. she smokes his shit.
>>70143821
this is some "dont hug me I'm scared" shit
>>70144787
Yes. They aired it once and then never played it because it runs long. Eventually they wrote Gary Takes a Bath which runs short do they play them together. Shanghai'd never use to air.
>>70144940
That sounds like a creepypasta
>>70144893
I feel the same way about Lisa the Skeptic.
>>70143821
That "The Thing / Pingu" crossover fan video was less scary than this
>>70135130
shouldn't this be on /co/?
>>70145089
No because it can include non-cartoon episodes.
spooky lad
This made me uncomfortable as a kid and I wouldn't want to watch it. Everyone's so mean and angry to each other, it's a very uncharacteristic episode. The jokes fall flat and there's a general unease to the tone. They never used that creepy red color in the sky in another episode, either. When I was little I thought they were in Hell.
>>70141368
holy fucking shit
>>70135694
Anyone has a link to that scene? I've got vague memories of it
>>70144251
Were you worried we'd make fun of you if we saw that scene-trash intro? lol

>fell asleep with tv on
>before adult swim was a thing so they just played regular CN shows all night
>wake up at 3 am
>this episode is playing
>too scared to turn off the tv and left in the dark with this episode fresh in my mind
>too scared to get up and change channel because something might grab my feet from under the bed
>sit up with my back against the wall during the whole episode
>watch a few more shows to forget about it and fall back asleep
Fuck those assholes for making that episode
>>70140552
This entire fucking show desu.
>>70145186
For real. Even the punchline that the angel was just 2 fish attacking a man felt disconcerting, I always left that episode feeling terrible. Same for Frank Grimes, that impressive intro with all the ways he escaped death only to electrocute himself to death in a rage was just upsetting.
I think I was just a pussy kid, even the episode where Lisa was babysitting her siblings with Bart making things difficult was harrowing. What the fuck was wrong with Bart, smashing his head inside his room against the locked door until he passed out?
But I loved all the THOT specials

>>70135130
There is a episode from Jackie Chan Adventures were him and Jade goes to a small village in Europe and everybody is part of cult. The whole episode was pure thrill when I was kid, every time they thing they're safe, some shit happens.
It's a mix of Resident Evil 4 and The Wicker Man.
>>70144601
The fuck is that?
>>70143974
>>70145644
these so much desu
>>70145186
Now that you say it is very... off. It's great though, you'd never get an episode like this in nu-Simpsons and if we did it would feel very forced. Every TV show needs an unsettling episode now and again.

I know, anon. I'm scared too!
>>70139841
That episode was like going on a drug trip as a kid
Also this pic was scary
>>70135130
there was an episode of barney that scared the shit out of me when i was a kid
>kid in bed sleeping room is dark
>barney comes in and wakes kid up
>takes him into closet
>it was actually a doorway to this pirate ship that's floating an inordinate amount of feet in the air
>kid looks back through doorway and his closet isn't there anymore
who thinks that shit is ok
>>70135130
I'll go with a non-animated one for mine.
One of the earlier CSI episodes, season 2 I believe, with some guy wearing a giant, realistic bunny mask and using helium to change his voice, and backlit by headlights in the middle of the night. Nothing creeped me out more from the damn show than that. In the end I never remembered anything else from the episode but that one, couple minute long scene.
>>70144620
man THOH was the greatest shit in the world as a kid, the perfect balance between genuie scary and lightheardted fun, there really was nothing like watching all those cartoon halloween specials on helloween eve after collecting a shitton of candy
>>70145186
that's kinda usual for this time in simpsons history, it was right inbetween its so called golden ara and that pure garbage that followed it, i thing mike scully was head at the time, there really were some gems in there but it mostly started going downhill really fast, still nowhere near as unbearable as it got later on
>>70144051
THIS. I cried.
>>70146753
It always used to annoy me the way there would be completely new kids each episode. Like, he would never see the previous ones ever again and these new kids were just next in line to be abandoned by a fresher batch.
>>70144563
this looks familiar....
The scariest Spongebob episode was this.
Bart Joins The Navy with the backwards singing.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uw-lYea19KE
>>70147365
Judging by the vast drop in quality in the series after the movie was released I am almost convinced the writers were trying to get the show cancelled
>>70147376
thought I was the only one creeped out by this
>>70147376
oops New Kids on the Blecch is the name of the episode
I'm Dutch and there was this one show when I was a kid about other kids being able to "adopt" new parents, because they were sick of the ones they had now. It was a pretty good show and the new parents always were played by the same parents iirc. There was this one episode though, where this kid was fed up with his parents and got new ones, but the new parents were actually vamires so they let the kid eat whatever he wanted and do whatever he wants before they drink his blood. I think the kid found out about them being vampires because he ordered a pizza and the parents killed him and he was laying dead on the ground outside. That episode fucked me up, got a pretty long lasting fear for vampires from that, and the night club scene from blade I saw when I was 5 years old.
Vampires are cool to me now, though. Blade is one of my favourite capeshits even.
>>70147433
or just went for the ''disturbing'' tone like the other popular shows at the time like Flapjack, Family Guy did the same thing.
>>70147365
did all that shit actually happen?
i only remember bottom left and bottom right
>>70147473
>Im Dutch
what is it with Dutch people on the internet always having to fucking say they're Dutch?
>>70147488
All are from a real episode.
>>70147457
Just hearing it now: still kinda creepy
>>70147520
Well I'm dutch so I think it's just because I'm dutch.
>>70147520
I guess you're not Dutch then :(
>>70147476
I doubt they were trying to copy Flapjack's style considering that show wasn't successful
Family Guy got away with it because it's not a children's cartoon
Remember when Doctor Who could be actually engaging and scary instead of shitty jokey plots and fanservice?
>>70147520
Here's a non-meme reply though.
I said I was Dutch because the show was only aired in the Netherlands, or maybe Belgium, not sure. So instead of wasting someone's time when he's wondering what show I'm talking about he can just think: oh I'm not Dutch so I couldn't know.
>>70147473
>the new parents always were played by the same parents
What lol? Did they wear new outfits every episode or something?
>>70147557
>>70147580
On /int/ Dutchies are one of the best posters, but everywhere else they are so goddamn obnoxious
I don't get it, is it because they don't actually have to say they're Dutch because their flag shows?
>>70147723
Yeah I should proof read before I post, I meant the new parents were always played by the same actors.
>>70147695

Estonians, though... I mean they're not really shitposters but jesus do they love chatting about their culture
>>70147921
definitely the slappy episodes, but that monster mask one was one of my favorites as a kid!
>>70148035
Why is Estonia such a wonder of a country?! Only 25 years ago it was devastated by communist rule, but now Estonian people live better than Greece, Portugal and Italy, we're not even talking about ex-USSR.
By the way did you know that public transport is FREE in Estonia?
And they even can VOTE ONLINE?
And NOKIA has facilities over there because Finnish infrastructure is obsolete compared to Estonia, which is LITERALLY permeated with optic fibre?
Bravo, Estonia.

Nah Shanghied is based, maybe the funniest episode. Even the weird bits with the Fly of Despair and the Perfume Department are hilarious for their absurdity.
Firstly sometimes I forget that some you were children SpongeBob was on TV. Jesus you kids are young. Or maybe I'm just too old.
For me it was that episode of Goosebumps where that kid this is a ghost or something he got his head chopped off and you see him standing in the stairway. That made me piss myself literally. Also when I was a bit older, episodes of beyond belief always scared the s*** out of me

First episode of Simpsons I ever saw. Wasn't even scared, just extremely confused.

Would highly recommend Herzog's remake from the 70s as well. Probably my favorite version of Dracula.
