I wouldnt go as far as say he hated Venom and more like he was forced at last moment to include him but still wanted to fit it into the themes of the trilogy.

Venom is a horror character anyways and it has no place/wont be well done in a PG13 superheroic movie.
You can have the perfect cgi and the perfect actor but it will never be frightening because at the end of the day Disney will want to sell toys of him. He will never be the monster you imagine. Wouldnt surprise me if he was actually tamer than his SM3 version.
