there's a good chance that AD wrote their gag first. Fox was incredibly slow to air new episodes, and built up a massive backlog. the episodes that are airing now were written in 1995.

-when the network orders a season, they order 22 episode
-Fox only aired 16-18 episodes a year
-over several years, Fox had an entire season's worth of episodes banked up
-the writers and animators finished all the episodes that had been ordered
-fox didn't need any more episodes for over a year
-without an order to write and animate more episodes, the staff found other jobs
then once Fox was getting closer to running out of unaired episodes, they ordered another season, but the showrunners couldn't get all the staff back. in an interview, they compared the process to creating a new TV show
