what's the most visually impressive movie you've ever seen?
Does simple good scene setting and camerawork count or do you only want crappy ostentatious CGI?
Beyond the Black Rainbow or 2001.
Anyone got good grids for either?
>>70033759
The first fight in the water was the first time in so long cgi actually looked impressive to me. Much better looking than Jurassic world and the capeshit we see today desu
>>70033759
>>70033759
Dredd.
Plot wise wasn't anything great, but it just felt so surreal sitting there and just getting absorbed in its environment.
the new world or kwaidan

Greengrass didn't direct the first film so it didn't have his kinetic style of camerawork

>>70034363
Suspiria is underrated as hell.

So many cyberpunk settings that fall by the wayside so that some hollywood action movie can run through it's plot.
When are we getting a proper cyberpunk movie that the setting is more than just a backdrop?
naturally anything Welles

Planet Earth
for whatever reason a multiplex near me put the assassination of jesse james on their biggest screen and it just fucking bowled me over. it looked and sounded amazing.
>>70033759
Probably Fury Road.
I wasn't a fan of some of the filters, but the sheer number of practical effects and reliance on the environment made it extremely enjoyable to watch.
Honorable mentions to the original Jurassic Park films, The Thing, Tremors, The Matrix, Pirates of the Caribbean (especially Davy Jones), The Lord of the Rings, Starship Troopers and of course Avatar.

the only thing he's wrong about is Avatar.
>>70038799
Avatar is by no means one of my favorite films but as far as visuals go, it's pretty groundbreaking. It's very hard to keep the amount of realism they do in a film so dependent on cgi.

Thirded.
One of the most visually stunning films that's been released in the last few years.
If you haven't seen it just because of the feminism meme, you'll regret it. The plot leaves some to be desired. but the film isn't so much about the plot as it is about the road the plot takes. It's not so much about then destination as it is the journey. And the journey the film takes is just starkly beautiful and horrible simultaneously. It would truly take a visionary director like Miler to have the balls to not only put this on screen, but market it as a film for the masses, instead of keeping it sheltered in the recesses of the arthouse film circuit, to be viewed only by those cultured enough to appreciate it.

That film was so fucking flat, it was embarrassing to watch.
Original Tron had atmosphere coming out of the celluloid. Tron Legacy was boring.
>>70044316
Original Tron aged like shit. If you found Legacy boring, you might have ADD. "Embarrassing to watch" is just a faggot thing to say, did you have fun at Batman vs Superman? It's the greatest movie I've ever seen in IMAX and the only good one I've ever seen in 3D.
>>70033759
In terms of visual effects, Pacific Rim is quite good. I also really like the visuals in Man of Steel and Days of Future Past. And of course Blade Runner, for being 30 years old, still holds its own.

I literally just listened to an interview with Elijah Wood and the other Spectrevision guys and they revealed they're producing a new movie for that guy. wouldn't reveal any details other than it'll be less abstract and more primal. I think I remember him saying couple years ago he wanted to make like a caveman movie so could be that.

Explain to me why the HAL close-up in the middle is "visually impressive". It's a fucking red dot. That shot did not require any sort of skill or thought.
>>70035292
It really is too bad they ended that show after the first season.
I know this sounds like some boring shit but "the wall" the musical directed by roger waters has some of the flashiest but most real looking visuals along with a great blend of animation (in fact I personally think it's one of the best live action animation mix ever) it's pretty good if your okay with musicals
This is easily one of the most visually impressive films ever made

Tron Legacy. I enjoyed it predominantly for having the GOAT soundtrack, but the visuals are amazing as well on their own. Put them together and it is an audio-visual work of art. Too bad the plot was weak, but there's only so much you can do with a premise that throws logic out the window before it gets started.

striking imagery. in the context of the screenshot, not that impressive. but viewing the film you learn to associate that red dot with hal. it evokes feelings as we associate hals character withit, this one striking image every time the hal computer speaks. we are conditioned to feel some certain way when this image covers the screen. this striking image coering the screen enforces the character even though its just a red dot. its iconic nigger

I feel as if the film was somehow missing some pieces, or somewhat incomplete.
I was surprised at the end, I thought it ended somewhat abruptly.
few films make me think that there is something missing from them.
One that hasn't been mentioned yet: Sunshine
I know the movie get's a bad rep because of its ending, but I don't think it was THAT bad and everything up until then was near perfect.

>>70048266
The ending is good its just that when he horror part starts it just feels really really cheap.

I didn't think it was cheap, I thought it was very important to the film's overall themes and message.
>>70048110
I felt it was great familia>when the doctor lets him on the ship
>>70048469
Personally didn't get any message from it other than that they needed something to advance the story.
>>70033759
Avatar, I believe
>>70048625
I think one of the main themes of the movie is that humans are the biggest hindrance to human advancement.
>>70048625
This guy >>70048749 gets it. In addition to that, one of the key questions that arises during the film is whether or not humanity even deserves to be saved, and since that is crew's mission you need an ideological counterpoint to challenge that idea. Pinebacker is that challenge given a physical form for the crew to interact with. He's not so much a man as he is a representation of all the reasons humanity deserves to be doomed. Pinebacker is entropy, corruption, death, madness, obsession, fanaticism, cynicism, and violence all thrown together.
The crew itself isn't exactly a beacon of goodness. Hell they spend most of their time fighting with each other throughout the movie; they're divided, distant, selfish, and actively avoid cooperation. It's only when Pinebacker shows up to challenge the veracity of their mission that they're able to rise above their differences, work together, and are willing to selflessly sacrifice themselves for the greater good to prove humanity is worth saving.
Not really a good Movie, but Punisher: War Zone has some great coloured backgrounds and illumination effects.
>>70049065
Good shit. I'll >>70048625 watch it again and I'm sure that with this new way to look at it I'll not be thinking "oh here comes that horror part". Cheers.
