Look I'm not saying Supes just left a doomed family stranded, but just cutting from this shot gives such unnecessary ambiguity. Now we can't know for sure and have to consider that fucking superman left a family to die because Zack wants to force more Jesus imagery and do nothing with it. It adds to the uncomfortable feel of the movie. Instead of us seeing Superman saving someone heroically, we see him just float there, like he's contemplating whether to save him or not literally playing God.

>He's conflicted on what he's supposed to do and the advice both his Earth parents gave them is to fuck humanity, you're far more important.

They weren't just thinking about their son. They were thinking of the impact knowledge of his presence would have on humanity. That's what they were cautioning him against - stepping into that role before he was sure he was ready for it because as a wise man once said:

"No, a *person* is smart. *People* are stupid, panicky animals."

That's what we're seeing throughout BvS - how the stupid, panicky animals react to the presence of a being representative of an alien species that is vastly superior to our own both from a technological as well as an evolutionary standpoint. Some people hate him, some people love him, (a bit too much) but few remain unpolarized in the light of what he represents.

>>
>>70031221
>>70031312

You all seem to love how much Snyder does "subtle" symbolism so I thought you'd be smart enough to understand that statement.

Let me be more specific then

Jesus walking on water is one of the miracles he performed that is mentioned in the Gospel of Matthew, Mark and John. Here, our Lord and savior is walking on water in its liquid state. Peter even manages to walk on it too until he becomes a pussy and sinks. Thankfully, Jesus saves him (Snyder Superman would probably let him sink. Keanu Reeves would definitely let him sink). This is miracle is impressive because he's standing on water, in its liquid form, during a storm. Jesus has completed control over nature. He gives no fucks. He stands where he wants.

Superman in that shot is walking on ice, water in its solid state. That's hardly impressive or a miracle. You can do it, I can do it. There's barely anything Jesus like in that action. It's symbolic relation to the savior's miracle would be grasping at straws

If you try hard enough (and at this point, you probably will) you could find a way to compare this to something Jesus did. Just like how we all made the connection to St. Joseph of Arimathea bashing Christ with a bathroom sink was directly referenced in BvS.
>>
>>70031914
And your entire post misses how that scene plays into the running theme of perception versus reality. It doesn't have to be liquid for the image to convey it's point. It's a man doing an impossible, God-like thing while humanity is just passively along for the ride. There is no Peter, both because Clark doesn't realize the image he's projecting and because humanity doesn't remotely feel he's on their level.

That's why he's shown walking, flying, then simply hovering in the montage. It's at that moment that he stops his progress on the path he's leading us down. That's why Lex stealing his chance to try on a more public persona at the Senate hearing is important in regards to Superman. It stymied his first real attempt to face the consequences of his actions of the past year and a half and to reach out to humanity in a more relatable manner.

Now I'll wait resignedly for someone to call me an artist.
>>
>>70031914
The chains are his cross
He is carrying humanity's burden on his shoulders like Atlas
He is dragging Noah's Ark, with humans on it and he is literally saving the world
You can see the aurora borealis which is caused by the Sun's radiation entering the atmosphere
Superman is powered by the Sun's radiation
He is walking on solid water
Jesus walked on water
Water is required for life
Human beings are living things
Jesus was the son of God
Superman's name is Kal-El
El means God in Hebrew
Hebrew was what the Bible was written in
This is the Bible of Snyder
You are a Marvelcuck
>>
>>70031431
I disagree. Even people who like Nolan's movies don't really talk much about the cinematography. They seem to like the concepts and premises in his movies more than anything, and I'd argue those are actually nearly the only merits in them.

I can't remember any beautiful shots in TDK or Interstellar, but they are at least notable movies for their fundamental concepts (e.g., telling a comic book character's story in a "serious" "realistic" setting/context). Isn't that really why people like TDK? Fedoras aren't walking around praising its cinematography--they're fawning over the Joker and the "elevation" of a beloved comic book character to a "mature" status. (as an aside, I much prefer the "less serious" tone of Raimi and Burton's films)

That might explain why it appears so sophomoric to you then.

>>70035553
Is this picture supposed to support the claim that Snyder's filmmaking is NOT film-student tier?
>>
>>70030263
That looks fucking terrible

Let me just ask you this:

If all the religious imagery is in your face, but it's not there for the obvious reason, what's that say about the person employing it? It's there to indicate something far more subtle than what it appears to be conveying.

You've already said you don't care about the story, so would you like to take a stab at explaining its purpose first or would you like me to go ahead and do so?

>>70035908
Go ahead, let's have a laugh.

I'm so glad only virgins care about cinematography.
For once, good movies prospered.

This shot did more to tell the story of Clark Kent than MoS and BvS combined

It's not there to drub people over the head with "Superman = Space Jesus." It's there to convey to the audience when the people in Clark's world are seeing him as representative of a higher power. People make much of the framing in the church scene, but the truth is, the religious iconography goes well beyond that, portraying him as a savior diety, a solar diety(like Horus and Apollo), and a sky/storm diety(like Thor and Zeus). Of all those representations, the savior deity as represented by Christ is by far the most familiar to a western audience.

The priest looks at him and sees a savior, but after talking to him, comes to see him as just a man. He passed his test. Everyone in Superman's world must do the same, and Clark himself has to find a way to reach out past his own godly aura to be accepted as champion for mankind, not a symbol of our obsolescence.

Jor-El's AI, the digitized "ghost" of the man who said "He'll be a god to them." even knowing what his son is and why he's the way he is, still looks at him and sees a savior. Ultimately, Jor-El's AI fails to look past his own preconceived notions of what his son's role should be in human society.

The flood victims in OP's shot look up and see a "man in the sky" come to save them. Clark realizes this himself and it's at that point he realizes the path he's leading us down.

Throughout both films, mankind's unconscious deification of Clark is what's building in the background, climaxing in the final scenes of BvS. How he's received by mankind upon his return and how he chooses to confront it will be the culmination of his spiritual struggle to define himself on his own terms and bring to a close the "perception versus reality" theme that's had a through-line since Man of Steel.

If you think dude bro Zack Snyder thought of any of this you're absolutely delusional. Even in the extended commentary Zack constantly admits that there's nothing significant in most shots just that he did it that way because "it looked cool."

No, its because of conclusion-based reasoning and broad interpretation

Peppered with Zack's on-the-nose symbolism, usually lifted from much better stories and crammed into BvS with no regard to how it fits the narrative and dismal characters that he's created.

>>70037009
No you're just reaching for parallels that aren't there. You can find them in any movie or piece of literature if you look hard enough.

Pic related is one of only two images of Clark with anything remotely similar to the treatment that Superman gets in the imagery department. The other one occurs in the church scene in MoS.

Why? Because Clark's perceived as just a guy. Superman isn't. He's the representative of an alien culture vastly superior to mankind from both a technological as well as an evolutionary standpoint. The imagery's there to answer Perry White's question to Lois - "Do you know how people would react if they knew someone like this was out there?" Here's our answer - we try to turn him into a god.

Now let's see what people do when he comes back from the dead.

Kneel to your god-king.
