You have friends at school, mostly because you see each other every day out of a mandatory routine. As soon as you finish school and that routine's gone, you drop contact with all of those "friends" within a matter of weeks or years depending on how close you were to them
Same thing happens again in college/university - you make friends out of convenience, not out of genuine caring for each other. It's not so much friendships as it is personal acquaintances
By the time you're in the workplace people give up the facade of friendships and acknowledge that nobody is truly their friend, everyone is just another person you know that you keep some level of contact with because you want something out of them
Eventually you get married and have kids and they are the only thing you live for because you sure as fuck don't have friends, friends don't exist
