Most people have had that. This movie isn't patrician tier at all. It tries to be all SRS BSNS COMING OF AGE MOVIE but nobody bothered to tell Bill Hader or Kristin Wiig and they're essentially doing SNL characters.
The main character is an unlikable little kike who spends the whole movie stewing in his middle-class-no-real-problems malaise while pining after damaged goods.
But hey, at least he gets participation trophy sex at the end, right? She probably goes back to fucking Chads 10 minutes later.

I felt the same way, but after watching it again I realized that none of the 3 main characters(Cusak, Diaz, Cusak Love interest) are likeable at all. Each one is completely selfish and does things for selfish reasons.
I think the reason you felt depressed was the fact that 2/3 selfish people got a happy ending while the 3rd got a bad ending when none of them should have ended up happy.

I watched this for the first time when I was 15. At the time I was a normie and I watched it expecting an action movie.

Bone Tomahawk made me feel extremely sad during a few moments when perspectives of marriage and love were expressed by each character.
