I never disliked it, I just thought it was bit underwhelming after the first one. First movie had this cool interdimensional thing going on with Lovecraft vibes, but the second movie felt like it was building up for something big and it just wasn't as epic.

Just look at this picture, can't top this with some stupid painting and slime.

Ghostbusters 2 felt more like setup for Ghostbusters 3, or a synopsis for the cartoon show episode.
>>
>>69945851

>>
I liked Ghostbusters 2, but not as much as the first one. The new movie will probably be terrible. It sucks that you can't say anything about it without be called sexist.

Also, yeah, the final boss could have been much better, I mean in the first one they fought a mesopotamian FUCKING god

That's what a lot of people think, between Janine's new look, friendly slimer, and the ghostbusters not drinking or smoking it was heavily influenced by the cartoon. Makes you wonder who really wrote it.

I thought the idea of a possessed painting was cool. I just wished they played around more with the concepts
>>
>>69946011
He shouldn't have even been in the movie. The character was only in it for the money and to serve as an audience proxy so the Ghostbusters could explain what's happening.
>>
>>69950596
Yeah but the whole way they defeated him was pure shit

So, you spray him with happy slime and this simply sends him back into the painting, then the painting is replaced with a painting of the ghostbusters with the baby

Let that sink in.

Seriously, it feels like the writer was like fuck it I'm stopping right here

It's like an 11 year old wrote the ending
>>

>>
>>69945851
I never really understood why people hated this movie
>>
>>69950800
Agreed, new poster here.

The "solution" was a severe cop out, and the whole "entire city is dancing and being positive" is so fucking cringey, it was like a misused dance skit
>>
>>69951485
I don't hate it, but I was really underwhelmed after the first one was awesome

The ending, to me, was anticlimactic see >>69950800 even when I was a child

Also the whole thing with good slime/bad slime was really stupid. I feel the writers could have done much better.

To me the movie felt too much like they made a sequel because they were pushed to, as opposed to the first movie where it felt like they were there because they had genuine love for what they were doing.

It does, however, have some great moments like >>69951464 so I do like the movie, I'm just not as crazy for it as the first one
>>
When I was a kid the walking statue of liberty, still does.
But yeah, gooing a painting was really not-intense.
>>
GB2 had some legit scary moments (the subway, photos of Vigo where the fire breaks out,) but you have to wonder if GB should ever be legit scary in the first place.
>>
>>69951485
>>69951638
(cont.)
Also, it's too much like the first one. I really don't see why they had to build up so much at the start, it's like having yet another origin story because they have disbanded and have to come back together. We had already went through this in the first movie

I would have loved if this movie got that out of the way and got down to action quicker now that they were established.

Also it's depressing that these guys saved the city, I was expecting them to still be heroes years later but no, they were once again forced to disband and were fighting legal battles. To be fair, that's probably how the city would handle the disaster of the first movie, but still it's not something you want to see happen when the hero does something incredibly awesome for the city and then they turn around and push them into the mud.
>>
>>69951696
I think it should be a little scary, gives a sense that the ghosts are actually dangerous in some way.

I think what GB2 also had that's unappreciated is some of the same, good humor that the first one had. Obviously not as good as Ghostbusters, but I still find myself chuckling through Ghostbusters II
>>
>>69951792
I think that was a big joke about New York that they literally saved the world and still got sued and shit on, also had to do with the cynicism / negativity thing
>>
>>69951696
>but you have to wonder if GB should ever be legit scary in the first place.

Been a long time since I watched either but I feel that was a definite part of the recipe. The original film starts out in a "definitely creepy" way. Thing is they just override the actual fear factor with attitude of all sorts.

What's wrong with that? It's slime that feeds off human energy, whether it be positive or negative. It's not inherently good or bad you mook.

>>
>>69950680
Ernie Hudson's character originally had a much bigger part to the first movie, with a complete backstory and everything. It was only after he arrived on set that he found out they drastically cut down his role, where he doesn't show up until halfway through the movie, only joins because he needs the money, and pretty much only delivers corny one-liners. I guess he really did need the money, though.
>>
>>69953129
kek. Fuck off faggot. He wasn't defeated by the slime - he was defeated with the positive vibes/energy of the people of the city. He needed negative human energy to come into existence.

The real question is why exactly would crossing the streams pop all of the protons in a universe in the first place, and why wouldn't destroying one universe through an open door destroy the one it was opened to as well?
This is total protonic reversal, after all, and the door did swing both ways.

Both universes should've been obliterated.

>>69955581
This guy finally got it

When they crossed the streams, where were they pointing them?

INTO THE DOOR TO ANOTHER DIMENSION

The streams were crossing as they were going in

Thusly, all life and matter in the other dimension ceased to exist, including the open door.

It cause total protonic reversale in Gozer's dimension, obliterating everything including the door. Our dimension was not affected because once the door ceased to exist there was no gateway here. The huge explosion also happened to fry the marshmallow man.

How the Ghostbusters survived is beyond me, though.

The huge explosion also happened to fry the marshmallow man.

If the gateway ceased to exist, then no explosion would've happened in this universe. The explosion was the result of every proton going off in a light-speed chain reaction. Why would it suddenly decide to stop just because it blew up a door? The reaction would still continue.
>>
>>69955736

Incredibly cockstarved, desperate, because remember how desperate Moranis was in the first movie, of course Sijourney Weaver was way out of his league.

She looked at the 4 ghostbusters

>Ray is a man-child, just clueless, fantasizing about ghost blow-jobs
>Venkman is a player, he'd just use her, also he wants his women to be exciting and sexy and she just seems too boring
>Winston's a nigger... a cool nigger, but still

So the only logical choice for her was Egon, and when he was too awkward/disinterested to make the first move, well, settle for Louis Tully.

Close. Egon wasn't awkward at all. He didn't give a shit and was clearly asexual. Louis was as awkward as it got, and he sure as hell wasn't about to make the first move, interested or otherwise. Hence the sluttier Janine (and in my case, the subsequent boner) we ended up getting.

Fucking Egon, they made a great team

Ray with his manchild-excitement
Venkman with his used car salesman persona
Egon is just fucking awesome in the "I'm doing science, bitch!" way

But the chicks do dig his spididymis

Fucking Egon, loved that guy RIP

Except in Ghostbusters 2, where you have the whole part where they're broken up and you spend a large chunk of the movie explaining how they got back together, just like if there was an origin story

But, nitpick nitpick it's still a good movie despite its flaws

It's fine for what it is, I've always just felt (even as a kid) that it's a little too "paint by numbers". It's kind of got the same issues as Home Alone 2, Die Hard 2, and Hangover 2, where it's basically the same story beats as the first one, just with the finer details tweaked to where they can get away with calling it a new movie.

you really can't go more full retard in the sequel department than Highlander 2.

oh wait that last Highlander movie made by scifi channel actually was worse than 2
>>
>>69957003
but it's not an origin story, that's specifically the ooze and the turtles and their names and stuff. It's enjoyable to see these guys we know are cool doing regular joe schmoe jobs, like out of their element. That time Gohan went to high school and tried to fit in

See, I never actually saw anything wrong with this, at least for a first sequel. If I watch a sequel to a movie, I expect a similar movie. If you can bring something new to the table, then do it, but failing this, if you can easily shuffle the same deck and still deal something good, then feel free. I feel Ghostbusters and Home Alone dealt good hands the second time around.

James Bond movies always seem to get a free pass with its paint-by-numbers formula. A one-off sequel can't be too bad.
>>
The fact that they started off the movie with breaking the fourth wall by having Ray and Winston to the Ghostbusters theme kind of set the tone for how half-hearted the sequel was.

I did like it when I was like 9 years old, and it was nice to see Rick Moranis as a Ghostbuster, so it had that going for it.

Yep same here. I saw it as a kid and rewatched it a few times as I got older and never thought it was bad until I saw something on the internet about it. I still like it, but of course the original is best.

Even then, it was a sci-fi original movie that went straight to video.
Highlander 2 had the same creative team, the same cast (including Sean fucking Connery), the same director, and it premiered in theaters.
The fact that it was as horrible as it was despite all that made it top my list as worst sequel ever made.

Every straight to TV sequel past that at least can say it was straight to TV.

The only thing I can really understand about not liking Ghostbister 2 as much is the fact they fought an actual god in the first movie, the stakes were higher, and the backstory behind it all was better. Like a cultist architect builds a special building used to channel spirits and summon a god to destroy the world. You really can't get any better than that.

That large chunk was awesome, though. The whole Scoleri Brothers/courtroom subplot was great.

Say what you will about the rest of the highlander sequels but Bruce Payne as a villain can make anything watchable

What the fuck was with that guy? I get him picking her up to fuck her, but why give her that alien spiel and tell her the world was gonna end in almost 30 years?

W-was it Venkman the whole time trying to drum up guests?

They were on Larry King in their prime; it's not exactly difficult to imagine that the theme song wouldn't have been written in their universe.
>>
>>69956980
Yeah, when James said it was impossible without Egon, I wholeheartedly agreed. Fuck, Egon was even in Extreme Ghostbusters. You just can't do it without him.
>>
>>69946011
Eat a dick. The black guy in GB2 was a solid character. The one in the new GB looks and acts like a fucking gorilla. They really goofed up that character.

always appreciated it, was too young to notice difference in quality. Venkman shittalking a painting was awesome

In my opinion the difference in quality wasn't that huge. It wasn't better than the first one, but in all seriousness it wasn't that much worse either.

Eh, the trailer looked funny enough. It's hard to imagine Ghostbusters without Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd, but let's face it... Those dudes are getting pretty old. If the remake waited another 10 years, they might only get in by being typecast as the ghosts.

You know what's not hard to imagine? Definitively ending Ghostbusters with two movies and a successful video game and never touching the franchise again.
