I don't understand, if they're just killing machines, why do they seem to have their own distinct culture, with their own distinct armors, weapons, ritual alters, etc?
I wish they were not just generic evil bad magic experiments gone wrong. I would have liked to see them have some personality, some deeper reason for wanting to destroy the wildlings and the wall.

Little problem for you brother.
The wall is built after the first invasion, it's made to keep the Others away, it's it sole purpose, and it's made after the first invasion.
That's what doesn't add up on the whole CotF make the Others.
They already had peace and shared their lands and religion with the First Men when the Others atacked, and they destroyed the Arm of Dorne to keep the andals out when they atacked, why would they destroy the Arm when they had the White Walkers and why would they backstab the first men?
Show is fanfiction, so it may end in that way, but it will not in the books.
