It lies in Oswiecim, but the camp's name is Auschwitz.

Yep, that's right.
People who live in Oswiecim (like I do) don't like, when foreigners call their city "Auschwitz". German bastards called it that way.
For example - if you are american and you go to Munich, you don't call it "Monachium" (like polish people do), but "Munich", right?
But I do understand that most of the visitors call it Auschwitz, because they come only to see the camp.

It's weird to say it's "part" of Poland since WWII. The camp was built by the germans in the city, that was established long before - around XII century.

The Camp was German and thus was given a German name, end of story I guess.
HOWEVER! Poles tend to get the colossally flaming butthurt if you forget to whitewash them in every single aspect of the WWII.
It's basically forbidden to say in Poland anything else than that Poles were the obviously immaculate good guys.
