It's an attempt to make money. It's not different than Superhero movies.
The producers think that there is a market that can be squeezed for money, and that market is feminists/progressives.
If Ghostbusters sells, then it'll show that not only femsploitation is valuable, but it's also unassailable. Consider how much flak it got. If a movie can survive that, then jesus, it's tapping a market that just really really wants to be used.
