Why is this movie so misunderstood? It deserves more credit than it has.

Doesn't it cross your mind that he might have intentionally made your mind think, to get you to want more and find answers? My take on it is that since it's the first movie it was meant to have unanswered questions, since the whole plot can't be explained in just 2 hours, which would ultimately have followed in a sequel. But not only that, the whole purpose unanswered questions was to get us to imagine and think of what our take on the movie, since that's what good scifi movies really try going for.

omg yeah. thats what was missing from the movie. i couldnt put my finger on it, but that seems to be the issue: that universe isnt just muh xenomorph, it has some elements like biotech, or biomech, which wre fucking absent from it.

>but black goo was biotech
it was fucking lame. it needed the android to get dirty too, but it didnt. hologram has no physical contact. david should have interfaced with that machine by actual physical merging and contamination (which is a bit theme in the whole franchise). but it didnt. ridley scott just doesnt care anymore.

It's not misunderstood; it's simply bad. David is an interesting question, it's visually beautiful, and it asks interesting questions, but it doesn't even attempt to explore what the answers might be. The point of the movie is essentially, "What if God hates us, lol?"
There's obviously a parallel between David/Weyland and Weyland/Engineers, and it's kind of interesting that David's motivations for killing his creators (humans) is unclear and that the Engineers motivations for killing their creations is unclear, but SO WHAT? What's the point of that?
And of course, the premise of the movie itself doesn't make sense. If the Engineers are genetically human and they created humans specifically after life existed on earth, why are we so obviously linked to all that life by evolution? If the engineers seeded earth with life before there was any, why did it evolve into humans, an exact genetic replica of them? DNA doesn't allow you to do anything like that. It's insane.

*David is an interesting character

Dumb characters with dumb dialogues for a dumb American audience.

Everything about the movie is ridiculously stupid and nonsensical, from the punk biologist electrocuting and messing with the Alien fauna from the auto-surgery machine that only works on males.

It might have beeen a good movie, it had everything to become something epic, but it was a fucking disaster.

wouldnt the sequel of the movie have the answers we were looking for?

Its a movie about aliens trying to destroy humanity

Mystery and ambiguity is good if it has either a logical explanation as payoff or, if it doesn't have that, the lack of resolution itself serves to make some kind of metaphysical or epistemological point. Lindelof did neither in LOST. It's clear that he has this very juvenile notion of mystery and writes surrealist nonsense without ever having to think through why any of what the events he describes happen or why his characters do what they do.
