I know people talk up Marvel for starting the whole CINEMATIC UNIVERSE thing, and they obviously actually did. But I'll never understand why Hasbro didn't do this first. They sell their shit to Dreamworks or whoever it was, then those people go off and make Transofrmers and GI Joe and then, shockingly Battleship.
There was obviously a link between all of them. They literally could've done it first. Not that it would have been better, but there is clearly something there. The Transformers obviously changed the game on warfare, wholesale. Even have the white and black army guys from the first Transformers carry over into the build-up of GI Joe, and then have the aliens in Battleship be some enemy of the Transformers or even just more Decepticons. On of the original 13 Primes, Megatronus was created by Primus. The God/Machine of the Autobots. He then betrayed the other Primes and became an agent for Unicron under the name The Fallen.
The Fallen should have been the final antagonist in the series along with Unicron.

Starscream was Megatron's rival for leader of the Decepticons. He was underhanded and clever, but had no hope of winning an equal fight against Megatron, so he'd back down pretty quickly and wait for his chance to betray him. Otherwise, he was pretty strong, and his ability to fly was pretty useful. He often ended up carrying Megatron around and even fired him sometimes in gun form. He generally had the support of the other flying Decepticons.
Soundwave was more of a faithful lackey, but really, he was one of the most machine-like of them all. He didn't have much personality, and just did his job. Megatron trusted him and kept him close. He wasn't stronger than average on his own, but his little guys were useful, and he had other special technical abilities.
Shockwave was similar in some ways to all of Megatron, Starscream, and Soundwave. He was largely emotionless, something of a rival to Megatron (unlike Starscream, he may have been able to take him in a fight), and turned into a gun.
There are some differences between the original cartoon and comic representations of these characters.

The internal blade weapons were a much better choice as they both highlighted the shape-shifting capabilities of the robots as well as providing them with a weapon that couldn't be lost or stolen without dismembering the guy using it.

I think part of the problem with the Transformers movies' desgins Is makeing the transformations look realistic enough in a live action movie. I suspect the massive amount of greeble and pointles mechanical detail it to hide actual transformation.
