This is a powerful piece of cinema and I think that It's one of the greatest films since 2000.
It's not perfect, but it's a diamond in the rough.
In some ways, the rough is what makes it so great. It's not a squeaky clean corporate product.
It's one wierdo's crazy vision of a conflicted man's descent into hell.
This will be remembered as an achievement in pop art long after the Disney Wars have faded into the ether.

I don't understand how anyone who isn't white can identify with the characters portrayed in films. Films that are considered canonical masterpieces, films from the 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, etc. have virtually no other protagonists than white characters.
Luckily, I have the huge privilege to be white, and thus I don't really need to worry or think about it when I watch a movie. But if a movie casts a purely white cast, I can't imagine how conflicting that is for the nonwhite viewer. Say, for example, an African-American that *loves* movies sees the film *Rear Window*. It's impossible to deny the technical mastery of Hitchcock, but isn't it also impossible for them to competely fall in love with it because it feels like the movie is being indirectly racist by casting not a single person of color? As a white person, I don't ever have to think about this, therefore it's much easier for me to like the movie than the African-American individual.
How do People of Color feel when they watch a movie such as "Gone in the Wind", a film considered a masterpiece among a handful of film historians, but one that also denies your life and experience as valuable?
I honestly cannot comprehend the profound racism of Hollywood, not only for its white casting, but also for denying thousands of people the experience of falling in love with a movie; denying them the experience to be cinephiles. I would like to see white audiences be more conscious of the privilege they have in enjoying the overwhelming majority of movies made.
Furthermore, I rarely see this discussed on forums like these (probably because the majority of people here are white) so I would appreciate your insight on this topic.
