How would you fix British tv?

Give more money to BBC Four to continue to produce exceptional documentaries for a start.

And get more sport back on free-to-air TV. Sky and BT are hoovering up everything.
>>
>>69782303
Ban anything to do with 'trendy' hobbies, like Great British... cooking, baking, sewing, ban all soaps and 'property' programmes; more documentaries, dramas.
>>
>>69782303
Break up Sky into multiple companies and force them to sell off their channels. The reason shit sucks is because Sky dominates pay TV, so no pay channels can afford to create British scripted content.
>>
>>69784681
(Basically, if you broke up Sky into 3 pieces and had 5 major pay TV companies, channels would have leverage to increase their fees, and they would use that money to pay for more original TV shows ala the US. Sky uses their power to pay channels jack shit, and they own half of them, and Sky are fucking terrible at original content)
>>
Have Sky ever produced a good series? All of their original drama series have been shit. BBC and ITV produce better.
>>
>>69782303
>kill license fee
>put adverts on BBC channels
>kill BBC 4
>>
kill the tory government and go back to the proper BBC
>>
>>69784873
Strike Back
>>
>>69784873
Basically no. People argue certain ones, especially Strikeback, Dream Team or Stella, but nothing has ever hit the cultural zietgeist.

>>69784970
If you split up Sky then you could do this. Governments are just terrified of fucking with Murdoch. Look at how BT starts trying to compete with Sky and suddenly the government decides they need breaking up.
>>
>>69785006
this. would totally fix the problem
>>
>>69785006
Honestly, the BBC kind of sucks, they're just better than the shitty alternatives. It would be nice if commercial broadcasters were compelling enough so people weren't forced to pay £120-odd/year for shit.
>>
>>69784873
Sky have done a few decent bits. Sky more recently has gone up in quality and ITV down, tho ITV have expanded out in other ways.
>>
>>69786131
That's because Sky has spent a fucking fortune throwing money at originals in the hope that it reduces their dependence on increasingly insanely expensive football rights. It hasn't really worked because they struggle to make people give a shit. Sky Atlantic's viewing figures are hilariously low.

ITV literally created a channel just to show TOWIE, madness
>>
>>69786199
Fun fact: the Sky Atlantic Alan Partridge series got 60,000 viewers.
>>
>>69786346
wew
>>
>>69786346
Jesus

I'd watch it too, if it wasn't for the stupidly high premium you need to pay to even get to see it
>>
Lately they've been infected with the American brand of "MORE STORIES MORE SEASONS"

Which is totally incorrect. Beeb has always made its mark off of its one-off miniseries, but is buttfucking itself out of that distinction.
>>
>>69782303
BBC4 is literally only good on Friday nights
>>
>>69786345
And they've expanded how many shows are made in ITV studios like mad.

And ITV encore is confusing af. I thought it'd be repeats but then it was sub par overseas remakes of some shows, now it's subscription to see a handful of shows that they show partly on ITV and aren't great from what I've seen.
>>
>>69786902
ITV Encore is literally Sky throwing money at ITV for an exclusive channel, because no-one cares about their own original shit. That's the only reason it exists.

less modern crap like alternative lifestyles on TV thank you very much

Bring back chuckle vision and stop setting children's programming in gritty "urban" areas

ban interracial couples no one wants to see that christ
>>
BBC4 gave me Peep Show and Utopia.

They could do anything they want, really, I'll always love them for that.
>>
bring back analogue sky so i can still listen to ppv
>>
>>69787086

>>
peaky blinders is great

i dont even watch UK TV, it's all so shit.
>>
>>69787143

Fuck the Beeb, then.
>>
by making sure everyone properly pays for their TV license and enforing it strictly
>>
remove jews from BBC and reverse all their quotas
>>
remove london, everything would be solved.
>>
>>69787143
Channel 4 somehow manage to make better original TV than the BBC despite no licence fee payments. The thing that really irks me is how shitty the BBC are with putting some of its archive online. They've just started to begrudgingly and only a little bit. But having already been paid the license fee I should be allowed to just download/stream that shit whenever, not milked for more money.
>>

Because they aren't burdened by the same retarded ideology as the Beeb.
>>
>>69787824
Yeah, they just do it anyway like the faggots they are.
>>
>>69785006
This guy gets it.
>>
>>69787824

they're subsidized and they have ad revenue and are obligated to be the SJW channel
>>
>>69782303
Make it so the BBC is free for everyone, now they have no money to waste on diversity pish no one wants.

>>69784873
I liked the stuff with Ross Kemp but that's about it.
>>
>>69788042
>obligated to be the SJW channel
>Literally hours of poverty porn shitting on the plebs

They're obliged to some of the Beebs bullshit sure, but nowhere near the same levels.
>>
>>69782303
Do something to get rid of Exclusive Rights to sports and other such things

Fucking fed up of Sky taking all the good shit

Also do something about Sky, maybe make it cheaper
>>
Moratorium on reality programming, especially Simon Cowell. Bring back Sharpe and Blake's Seven, have Doctor Who on more than every other year, and let Charlie Brooker make anything he wants to.
>>
>>69787086
beeb the thick of it is as good as peep show
armando ianucci + jesse armstrong + some other niggers
> beeb is being fucked, every goverment is scared of them but they have control of them
>>

Fuck off tory boy
http://www.channel4.com/info/corporate/legal/frequently-asked-questions-4
It is completely self funding but is publicly owned. The talk about selling it makes 0 sense.

>>69787824
They have way more stringent regulations than the BBC weirdly. Maggie Thatcher wanted to make a channel that'd fail quickly but make a bunch of TV amd entertainment jobs. So the rules are overly stringent (in an attempt to stop it making money), has no real business incentive to make a profit, and has to mostly rely on advertising revenue.

>>69788042
>they're subsidized
Nope.
>>
>>69784873

I cannot believe people pay the prices they do for Sky.

There's nothing worth watching that you can't get on freeview. The biggest con for me though is you can only watch Sky on two devices before you have to pay extra. And you can't watch it on your PS4 either because that also costs extra.

Thick of It was like a decade or so, though. Yes Season 4 exists, but 8 episodes doesn't count against a decade of shit.

And honestly, Season 4 felt off to me anyways. I didn't really like it.

Fuck you. Lack of adverts is one of the best things about the BBC. That and David Attenborough.
