Has there ever been a remake or reboot that was better than the original?
Not that
>>69779413
>picture unrelated
Robocop
I'd say The Fly, but basically because the original was made in the 50s.
>>69779413
Mad Max.
>>69779491
Came here to post this. It also helps that it was an absolutely perfect combination of source material, director, and era.
Dredd 3D
>>69779502
The Road Warrior is a sequel, is it not?
>>69779458
this couldn't be more wrong
The Thing 1982
The Fly 1986
THE thing,
THE fly,
THE blob...
Notice a lack of THE in Ghostbusters....

Remember how real the special effects looked back then? I was horrified as a kid when I saw this movie and loved it. If they remade this film it would be all CGI, like why can't they use practical effects for stuff anymore?
Didn't they learn anything from Fury Road? Most of the effects there were practical and look how awesome that movie turned out. Imagine if the cars or the fucking flamethrower guitar were all CGI.
The Thing
True Grit
But both are more like anoter adaptation of a book than a remake/reboot. Same with NolanĀ“s Batman trilogy. A Fistfull of Dollars and Seven Magnificent are somewhat of western remakes of japanese films but the take is diferent enough to make them feel like unrelated films.
Insomnia is the only good remake I can remember right now.
Dawn of the Dead 2004
don't know how snyder managed to pull that off
TheDeparted
>>69779601
>>69779630
You forgot Invasion Of The Body Snatchers and Nosferatu
>>69779491
I think the fly is beyond a remake/reboot
It just have the same concept/name but the whole thing is barely similar.
>>69779674
'Cause James Gunn can write. Even Scooby Doo was entertaining for what it was ...
>>69779413
John Carpenter's The Thing
>>69779744
Then how do you explain GoTG?
>>69779718
Nosferatu is not a remake/reboot
is a blatant copy of dracula with name change to avoid legal issues
3:10 to Yuma
>>69779413
dawn of the dead imo
Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978)
What is it about that late 70s early 80s aesthetic that makes horror movies so comfy lads?
>>69779813
>Nosferatu is not a remake/reboot
wut
>>69779856
No cg
>>69779856
They just figured out how to do it, practical effects, less reliant on shock and more on fear, nostalgia.
The Fly (Cronenberg)
Hills Have Eyes (Aja)
The Thing (Carpenter)
American remake of Breathless
Sorcerer

Per based Herzog Nosferatu is a remake that keeps Murnau original blueprint of the film while changing the names back to the original novel. If anything, it's an homage to Murnau.
On 29 July 2015 it was reported that a remake of the film would be written and directed by The Witch director Robert Eggers and produced by Jay Van Hoy and Lars Knudsen.
How hyped lads?
>>69780004
>Breathless has an American remake
Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat ??? Is it worth watching ?
>>69780100
Nosferatu
Ocean's 11
>>69779601
>The Thing 1982
I doubt even Carpenter would say his film is better than his idol's original. It's not.
Little Shop of Horrors/
dredd
>>69779502
this
The Thing is not a remake, is anoter take on John Campbell book, Who Goes There?
>>69780395
This. The films have little in common aside from the setting.
Ghostbusters is a remake.
>>69779730
It is a remake. A remake doesn't have to be exactly the same as the original but modern. The fact that the central plot element is about a scientist messing with a newly invented teleportation machine that ends up in fly-related shenanigans is what matters the most. Cronenberg just took the squickier route of Jeff Goldblum slowly turning into a were-fly instead of just a fly and a man swapping heads like the original.
>>69779674
This.
>>69779413
Evil dead II
>>69779601
>>69779630
Carpenter's The Thing is not a remake. It's another adaptation of the book Who Goes There. A much more accurate one, in fact,1951's The Thing From Another World only has the ''scientists find alien and it hunts them down'' part right. The alien in that movie is some sort of ''vegetable'' organism that just hulks around. There's no assimilation or anything.
>>69779667
I still intend to see the original True Grit but I really enjoyed the Coen one.
>>69779413
The Thing.
The Fly.
Let Me In
the force awakens. bigger death star, cooler diverse characters, awesome story
>>69779960
It's a copyright-avoiding (or at least tried to) adaptation of a book.
>>69779413
Frightnight.
>>69780186
Carpenter said that the director of the original shat on his 1982 version, along with the general public whom he said weren't used to scifi movies with grim endings.
>>69779413
robocop
Fuck the movie but I actually really like the remixed Ghostbusters theme in the trailer
>>69780842
Howard Hawks is the real creative force behind The Thing From Another World.
>>69780760
This
>>69779960
That anon was talking about the original Nosferatu (some versions did name the characters with their analogues from the original Dracula).
So in a way, Herzog's is a remake of a copyright-dodging film.
>>69780911
This, the credited director was just a puppet.
>>69779856
A very young Jeff Goldblum was there btw
Evil Dead :)
>>69779413
>reboot that was better than the original
Mad Max 4
Arguably King Kong
Probably the Lord of the Rings animated vs Peter Jackson.
>>69779458
>>69779502
>>69779674
>>69779776
I agree.
Also,I'll add
Point Break
The Incredible Hulk
Man of Steel
Batman v Superman
>>69779856
I don't know, but that's my favorite kind of movie. I live for that comfy sci-fi horror
>>69779413
Star Trek
Star Wars
>>69779413
That chocolate factory movie.
>>69782633
I always thought that was the same movie
>>69782590
That's a tricky one.
On the one hand Judge Dredd is VERY true to the lore and put an awful lot of little details in. Its even based on a collection of different Judge Dredd comics, which is really satisfying. Other than the awful acting, the Rob Schneider, and taking off the helmet, it was... ok?
Dredd on the other hand is balls to the wall constant action with excellent cinematography, effects, grit, and the story was there, but it was in the background. But, it wasn't especially true to the original material. It was the Fury Road of 2012.
>>69782720
No just same universe
>>69779706
not better than the original tho.
>>69782722
I know that it didn't have all the background stuff and there wasn't nearly enough street patrol as is featured in the comics for my liking but in terms of tone and quality overall it is INFINITELY better.
Plus, if they make another one they don't have to pretend that it takes places like a few weeks alter or whatever, they can do a real-time jump and be totally loyal to the comics in terms of how time progresses and Karl Urban could play the role until he legit dies.
Colin Farrel Total Recall is better than Schwarzenegger Total Recall from every perspective that isn't "muh memes" "muh nostalgia".
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2003 was a pretty great remake, but only because they didn't go for the grime and grit of the original and instead did their own thing.
Each version stands on it's own.
The Wicker Man (2006)
>>69783087
A true modern classic.
Isn't 3:10 to Yuma a remake? I haven't seen the original, but that was excellent and I can't see it being the worse version
what about Scarface?
Titanic
Ben-Hur
>>69783755
it wasnt good
>>69779413
Dredd, The Thing. About it. Dawn of he Dead is debatable. I hold them as equals.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=glzcxa7jtoI
The 1980's Blob
These effects were fucking top notch
>>69780200
Not sure this counts. It's a new adaptation of the comic, not a remake of the original film.
>>69780573

>>69779413
Yes but its very very rare.
The only examples I can even think of are The Thing and The Fly.
Superman
Batman
The Hulk
Captain American
Fantastic senpai
