He realized that negro was infected. I can't remember how he figured it out though.

And here we have the australian shit-crusted boobie. A shit-tier sperg that jerks off while getting cucked by BBC. A colorful little creature whose chirp is much larger than its bite. Like the koala, a rather comical and useless form of life. Behold it in all it's splendor.

They both were infected.
>>

Its been a while since I've watched it or read up on the theories, but from what I remember Childs was wearing different clothing, and some think the drink MacReady gave him at the end was actually gasoline, so when Childs drank it and didn't find anything odd, it meant he was the thing. Also I believe he wasn't breathing, as in the breath was not visible in the freezing cold unlike MacReady's which was very visible.
>>
>>69760466
Sorry, all i heard was: 'a dingo ate my baby!'
Speak up! Spit the goddamned marbles out of your mouth, ffs.
>>
>>69758708
Because Childs put down the flamethrower and he can thing out on him.
>>
>>69758708
He knows Childs is a Thing because he just handed him a molotov cocktail and he drank it like fine whisky.
So he laughs off the irony that anyway they'll both die freezing.
>>
why didn't macready just fly blair's spaceship out of there?

>passive aggressive sarcasm being better by any stretch
>>
>>69760545
I've heard of this theory and I believe it. The music begins to play right as Childs starts to drink. Then it cuts to MacReady, who laughs.

You can see Childs breathing though so that's wrong. But I do believe the gasoline.

>>69760692
Yes.

The spaceship was built wrong anyway, he wouldn't have time to fix it...and also he doesn't know how to fly a fucking spaceship lol

OH WOULD YOU JUST LOOK AT THE TIME
>>
>>69760898
Why? How'd the gas get in there? They never show what you propose in the actual film - baseless guesswork because the Thing duplicates PERFECTLY, including, ahem, taste buds. Duplicated people have TASTE BUDS. TASTE BUDS THAT CAN TASTE GAS.
Try again.
>>
>>69760898
>Believe the gasoline
IF HE WAS THE THING HE WOULD HAVE KNOW IT WAS GASOLINE BECAUSE CHILD'S WOULD KNOW THAT HE CAN'T DRINK GASOLINE AND THE THING IS A PERFECT COPY OF A HUMAN INCLUDING THEIR MEMORIES. I AM SO SICK OF THIS FUCKING ARGUMENT.
>>
>>69761055
It didnt duplicate perfectly shit lord, other wise the blood would never jump out of the petri dish when it felt threatened by the hot needle.

Also based Snake PleaseKen had molotov CockTails fuck off
>>
>>69761055
It tastes the gas, but it doesn't know what whiskey is. It drinks the gasoline and assumes MacReady and the others enjoyed drinking this.

No reason to believe The Thing would get nauseous.
>>
>>69761080
Ok fine, say I'm retarded for believing it. Why then the ominous music picking back up? Why the laughter of MacReady immediately after Childs drinks? Why does MacReady not drink some himself?
>>
>>69761080

Like I said, its been a while. I forgot that Benning's breath was shown, but during the very end scene, while Child's breath is shown when he's standing, when he's sitting, there's nothing. Meanwhile MacReady's breath looks like he's a living smoke stack.

The way I see it, the thing doesn't replicate its prey perfectly. The characters in the movie believe it does, but they're neither equipped nor have the time to run full tests on it. My theory is that the thing replicates creatures near perfectly, the flaw perhaps lying in small details, or certain, less important memories being lost in the process of takeover. For example, like >>69761080 brings up, the thing might know from Child's memory that gasoline is something that humans can't drink, but can't differentiate the taste of gasoline from any other liquid. There simply was no way for the crew to know exactly how the creature worked, not even with their space age 1980s doomsday predicting computer.

Given how prominent MacReady's breath is in the ending scene, I feel like either the thing forgot the need to appear to breathe while trying to determine whether MacReady was still a threat, or his visible breath while standing was just something that somehow was overlooked in the filming process. For all we know, the thing might produce enough energy or even oxygen by itself to sustain the human body without the need for breathing. Its impossible to determine with the information given, and I honestly think one of the best things a show or film can do is leave unanswered questions to keep dialogue like this going, and to have viewers decide for themselves what they believe.

The part about the end that makes me almost lean towards the gasoline theory is the music. The music in this film is used so purposefully and they wouldn't have started that music right at the moment child's drinks unless there was something about it.

Also Kurt is seen drinking many times in the movie and he prob would be seen drinking at the end if he had any on him, but all he had was a leftover molotov.

I don't pick a side tho, it's just not enough information to base an assumption.
>>
>>69761478
Oh i get it, man. The Thing is my favorite film still.
I'm also obsessed by Rear window and Vertigo of Hitchcock, but that's a totally different genre.

However if you loved The Thing, you should check out Cigarette burns of Carpenter, it's one of the episodes of Masters of Horror and it's so good it's a crime that it wasn't shown in theatres really.
>>
>>69761609
Director apparently confirmed that one of the two were infected at the end of the movie. Considering Russel still had his earring (something we know the monster cannot replicate), it would be safe to say that the childs was the creature.
>>
>>69761609
Good stuff anon.
>>
>>69761724
Source, I can't understand why the director would want to ruin the ambiguity of the ending.

It's a good theory and I like it. I don't think it's fact or inarguable, but it's fun to see the ending from that perspective.
