>you will never experience watching the LOTR trilogy in theaters for the first time
>>
>>69711270
It was truly a magical time, anon.
>>
But I did. The Two Towers was the first time I saw the same movie in theaters twice. The Helms Deep shit was too fucking epic. It will never get topped in this cookie cut jaded era.
>>
>>69711270
I saw them too.
>>
Remember that scene where the orc said "Meat's back on the menu, boys!"

How the fuck would an orc know what a menu was?
>>
I did. Seeing ROTK in the theater at midnight was fucking incredible. Never seen a crowd so in love with a movie-- the charge of the Rohirrim was like a collective orgasm, everyone experiencing the exultation of victory in the face of certain death.
>>
>>69711270
but I did, anon. on the opening days.

it was completely mind-blowing. just sitting there thinking "they actually did it"
>>
>>69711934
How would an orc in the middle earth know english???
>>
>>69711934
Fucking mind blown, dude!

You're making me question everything now
Like why didn't the eagles just fly Frodo to mt. Doom?

WTF I HATE LOTR NOW!
>>
>>69711963
Did you also think "the absolute M A D M A N"?
>>
>>69711270
But I did. I saw the first one in theater like 9 times.

My order:

#1. Seeing the films in the theater as they were released.

#2. Buying & watching the extended versions on dvd (best there was at the time) on the home theater system.

#3. Watching them again on Blu-ray.

#4. Watching them on TV every time they show them around holidays.
>>
>>69712989
One of my comfiest memories is watching them after a storm knocked out power for two weeks and we went to a relatives house to wait it out, drinking hot cocoa and warming up by a space heater

It was a glorious thing. Me and my now ex best friend watched each movie in theaters at least three times. I actually can't bring myself to watch the first one anymore because we went and saw it six times in the span of two weeks.

What did he mean when he said that?
>>
I did. They took our entire school to see all three movies. I'm not sure why they did, but we all fucking loved it.

Honestly some of the best theater experiences for me. My bros and some classmates got some good seats for Return of the King. Shit was packed. All that clapping and cheering at the end. Had a ton of fun that day.

They started off wanting to make 2 movies and recapture the magic of the Lotr trilogy.

Unfortunately it got stuck in development hell for quite a long time because MGM was about to go bakrupt, Del Taco left the project after doing most of the pre-production to fit his vision, then out of nowhere the studios demanded that they start shooting right away and it only got worse with New Zealand's unions going on strike demanding for more money, Jackson needing an operation and then the studios demanding 3 movies instead of 2 in the middle of production.
>>
>>69711270
I didn't really remember seeing them in the theater the first time around (I think my dad still has the ticket stubs though), but I saw the marathon that ran in 2012 before the Hobbit and it was a fucking religious experience. I've never had a better experience in a cinema, period.

If you actually read the LOTR books and Silmarillion you would know that Orcs are actually a smart and knowledgeable race, they are basically captured Elves who were tortured and corrupted by Melkor.

I can still remember the numerous arguments among my closest friends and I over what they'd fuck up, but also how most of our skepticism melted away through the magic of Fellowship on release night.

it's easy for successive generations to pass many things off as nostalgia, but sometimes you know there was legit greatness in certain places and times, that can never be felt or seen again the same way.

> jackson didn't put this bit in:

In rode the Lord of the Nazgul. A great black shape against the fires beyond he loomed up, grown to a vast menace of despair. In rode the Lord of the Nazgul, under the archway that no enemy ever yet had passed, and all fled before his face.

All save one. There waiting, silent and still in the space before the Gate, sat Gandalf upon Shadowfax: Shadowfax who alone among the free horses of the earth endured the terror, unmoving, steadfast as a graven image in Rath Dinen.

"You cannot enter here," said Gandalf, and the huge shadow halted. "Go back to the abyss prepared for you! Go back! Fall into the nothingness that awaits you and your Master. Go!"

The Black Rider flung back his hood, and behold! he had a kingly crown; and yet upon no head visible was it set. The red fires shone between it and the mantled shoulders vast and dark. From a mouth unseen there came a deadly laughter.

"Old fool!" he said. "Old fool! This is my hour. Do you not know Death when you see it? Die now and curse in vain!" And with that he lifted high his sword and flames ran down the blade.

Gandalf did not move. And in that very moment, away behind in some courtyard of the City, a cock crowed. Shrill and clear he crowed, recking nothing of wizardry and war, welcoming only the morning that in the sky far above the shadows of death was coming with the dawn.

And as if in answer there came from far away another note. Horns, horns, horns. In dark Mindolluin's sides they dimly echoed. Great horns of the North wildly blowing. Rohan had come at last.

Do elves poop? Cereal question. I know JRRT clarified some issues concerning their physiology in his letters, for instance low libido and fertility, but did he say something on their nutrition, for instance, how often they eat? If their metabolism is slow, it would be logical for them to eat less often than humans. Pic unrelated.
