Also, I recently watched a Turkish production from '94 that was pretty good: Kurtulus. It's about Turkey's fight for independence in the early 20th century. It's total propaganda, but they went all out. It's 6 hours long and features the actual Turkish army reenacting the battles.

Since I recommend Kurtulus, I may as well recommend the vastly superior "War and Peace", and "Waterloo" by Sergei Bondarchuk. Most incredible battle sequences ever filmed.
