>Season 1
>Budget was minuscule compared to the current budget
>They still managed to put up actual sets in open locations, with intricate armor and weapon recreations
>Had proper actors with gravitas, like Ned, Tywin, Cat, Lewin, all the Baratheons
>Fights were bloody and brutal, with people actually using their weapons properly
>SHIELD
>SPEARS
>AXES

>Season 6
>Overblown budget that is just spent bribing the remaining season 1-2 actors to stay around despite the shit quality they have to work with
>Armor is non existent, and when it is there, it looks like absolute shit (see the latest ep's Knights of the Vale, with their dirty peasant clothing over the top of dulled "plate")
>Every set is either a green screen, reused over and over, or an outdoor set built indoors that looks fake as shit
>Fights are now 1 guy dual wielding against 6 others, or stronk 7ft tall female knight killing entire bands of soldiers on her own
>Everything is a sword
>99% of the deaths are just people being stabbed from behind or in the throat, with dramatic music playing

What the fuck happened to this show? I went back to rewatch it all from S1, and my god it's so much better. It's like comparing Next Generation to some shitty YouTube Star Trek fan project.

>What the fuck happened to this show?

D&D were given "creative" freedom.
>>
The thing with bigger budgets is that its hard to lose them

Spend less and you have more to spend on cocaine
>>
>>69682549
50 Shades of Brown.
>>
There are too many scenes of people talking in a dark room. So dark that you can't see any sort of ornamentation or character. In season 1 there were many scenes in a fancy palace. It may be as a result of the plot location but the sets are much less interesting visually.
>>
>>69684547
it's winter m8
>>
>>69682549
You understand that the writing follows books, right?
And if you're complaining about the weapon diversity then Season 5 had a ton of diversity in weapons at The Wall(not to mention one of the Sand Sneks uses a spear etc.). The reason you see swords in one on one fighting scenes is that swords are status symbols and better for single combat than a spear, which was a peasants' weapon more or less.
>>
>>69684997
The writing doesnt follow the book anymore
>>
>>69682549
>>Everything is a sword
But anon there is also the whip, the double daggers and the throwing anus.
>>
They're sending the money to Israel.
>>
>>69682549
>Armor is nonexistent
People don't just dilly-dally in armor unless they have a reason or they're actively fighting in a war. Armor is cumbersome to put on and wear. Not to mention the Kingsguard do wear armor.

>cheap sets
I guess that might be due to the story being splintered into much more locations than S1, meaning there's more cities to make up.
>>
>>69684997
>than a spear, which was a peasants' weapon more or less.

you could just shut up but no, you had to show your ignorance about medieval times
>>
>>69682549
Why would you make this thread OP? You have good arguments, but you think those shills care about that? They'll just defend blindly their dumb show ignoring any valuable argument

>>
>>69685744
Oh yeah, this explains why so many duels were fought on foot using spears centuries after middle ages. Of course there was the spear as a mounted weapon, but in dismounted infantry combat who do you think is the more likely person to use a spear, a standard infantryman or a knight/man-at-arms? The Nightswatch being shown to use mostly swords without shields makes less sense but as far as duels/single combat goes, the prevalence of swords makes sense.

Oh yeah, and the faith militant also didn't seem to have any swords.
>>
>>69682549
You forgot also the past 2 seasons was just 2 minutes of like 90 characters stories.

Honestly they probably should had killed off a few more to expand more on a few other story lines.
>>
>>69686185
Monkey's paw, they will kill off actually interesting characters to give Dany even more screentime.
>>
>>69686075
So how exactly is the spear a peasant weapon?
>>
>>69686242

it's a variation of the pitchfork they used for farming.
>>
Yeah I agree, and why does every fight scene in the last 2 seasons have to end with someone getting stabbed in the back
>>
>>69686261
Try and use a spear as a pitchfork
>>
>>69686479
Every fight scene ends up with someone being stabbed in the back and every battle scene is the good guys potentially losing until some other good guys come and save the day
>>
>Ramsay still a thing.
>Roose dead.
>Stannis dead.
>Brienne still a thing.
>Sand Snakes still a thing.
>Doran/Areo Hotah dead.

why even live
>>
>>69686558
So the point of ASOIAF is to break fantasy tropes, that's how GRRM intended it, but D&D do the opposite by reducing the show into tropes. I just hope GRRM, sees the shit and gets furious and writes faster.

In combat it's functionally similar dumbass, not to mention that spears are cheap to make, lightweight, versatile, and easy to use effectively in massed formations.
>>
>>69686649
stannis was shit. brienne is good. ramsay is tired meme. sand snakes have always been useless.

Bigger Budget = WE NEED FANCIER HIJINKS.

Just look at Vikings as primero example.

Also early seasons are all sword affairs. Nobody uses a fucking polearm and only swords are present most of the time. The book fucking has Tyrion actually fighting in Green Fork as opposed to getting knocked out.

Chill the fuck out, at least now you'd get Bolton phalanx if the trailer isn't fucking with us.

>phalanx
THATS A SHIELWALL, NOT A PHALANX
>>
Not to mention it went from a single cam drama shot on the Alexa to red multi cam soap opera coverage
>>
>>69689564
Fuck off with your autism. In modern day parlance a phalanx is synonymous with a shield wall, or any body of men standing in formation to stop something. "A Phalanx or Riot Policemen" like in the Media.
>>
>>69689686
The words "phalanx" and "shieldwall" are just terms for a general close order formation where each warrior is grouped in tightly next to the other. However, while every shieldwall is a phalanx, not every phalanx is a shield wall. The term shield wall is used for when the warriors have shields, which overlap one another forming a strong barrier. Renaissance pike formations did not utilize shields, but were still considered phalanxes when they closed up, usually for the purpose of resisting a cavalry or infantry assault. Likewise, whilst Sarissa pike-men had shields, they were too small to cover each other.
>>
>>69689686
you using words you don't understand does not make these words synonymous
>>
>stannis was shit. brienne is good

>>
its popular to hate this show because so many other people are enjoying it.

the fucking normies are enjoying our show. REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
>>
>>69690579
not so much that the normies are enjoying it, but the show became self aware, it became a reflection of a 21st century normie, the plot and characters are all 21st century people like normies and its an attempt to be a fan pleaser, where they try to change the show and impress the vocal minority of fans on social media, reddit tumblr etc. The show is a product of 21st century normies and is intertwined with them now, it is a reflection of normies and has evolved to suit normies from the natural path it was taking.
>>
>>69686242
>>69686242
Not the same guy, but please quit embarrassing yourself. A spear is a "peasant" weapon because it's easy to make and easy to teach how to use in a formation. Of course lances were cavalry weapons but that's different. Swords were, in most societies (due to production constraints) nobility weapons because they were expensive as shit, much like armor.
>>
>>69690740
if anything the show is more popular than ever. which means more studio decisions will be made to please the masses.

i stopped giving a fuck about the show and the book after ned stark died. he was literally the only good character in the entire series.
>>
>>69686665

I really don't know why he isn't more heavily involved in the writing. The shows gonna be over in 2 years. The books can wait.Winds of Winter sounds like it's basically being finalized so finish that shit and get to helping write episodes.
>>
>>69689485
that looks so stupid
>>
It actually goes like this

>series is successful
>it is assumed the next sequel will be too
>bunch of producers ask the studio for more money, sit on the project, embezzle as much as they can
>series actually gets less money for production, but more on paper
>series still turns a profit, studio keeps the setup
>>
>>69689783
>>69689915
Well call it whatever you like you pedants. You know what I refer to anyway.
>>
>>69691063
What's so stupid about it? It's pretty sensible.

As for the tight shot, well, this is a TV series with a TV budget.
>>
>>69689485
dis. sword fights in hollywood movies and tv series has ALWAYS sucked ass.
> Bolton phalanx

To be fair: the reason why one on one duels happen in Movie Battles is
1) Safety. since those moving mosh pits called "battle formations" can actually kill people if one nigga trips and gets trampled.
2) space for camera shorts and crew.

Same reason why nobody gives lances to extras on horseback in most movie battle scenes. Or if they do they hold it in some animeish fashion so its not pointed at somebody or be given a phony lance.
>>
>>69691206
No, It happens at the end of the battle where the entire wildling army is round-up like fucking sheeps between the shieldwall and a pile of corspes so high men can't climb it. The knights of the Vale then attack the boltons from the back and they rout.
>>
>>69691373
They did it fine in Rome, from the very same channel.
>>
>>69690740
This, go watch Borgia if you want to see medieval.
>>
>>69691373
I'm not saying it would be easy but it can be done. The only reason why they don't is because they're lazy.
>>
>>69691617
Rome's battles also devolved into one on one fights. Have you seen Philippi?
>>
>>69691930
The opening scene kept pretty well it was literally only pullo and they made a point of that shit being stupid.
