Like over 10 years ago there was in interview with Julia Louis Dreyfus where she said she doesn't let her kids watch Seinfeld because they were "horrible people" and she didn't want her kids to be like them.

That was actually the first time I realized they are pretty bad people I'd probably not want to hang around IRL.

Judd Apatow interviewed Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder in his new book Sick in the Head, and Vedder discussed the Disney Channel.

“I don’t want to say anything, you know, because there are certain good things about Disney.” He added, “But that channel is not one of them, if not just even a single line in a half-hour show, that has anything of value and that isn’t said with an attitude other than, you know, being snarky.”

“And it rubs off, you know. It’s a bad influence. I probably sound like my parents. I mean, I was listening to Country Joe and theFish and George Carlin and, you know, Jimi Hendrix and all of that. We were pretty excited about this stuff.”

A show with flawed and/or asshole characters would have far more interesting conflicts than a show where literally nobody is sarcastic or mean.
That's just Storytelling 101
>>
>>69677439
I think the point is that real conflict is more interesting and understandable than the villain just being a fat dick because he/she wants.

It's far more interesting when people have specific reasons to do/say things.
>>
>>69677362
Why does Eddie Vedder know so much about the disney channel? Is he a cunnysseur?
>>
>>69677613
The central point is we spend our time focused for hours on people we would not give the time of day to in 'real life'.

We know enough about toxic people and how they bring a person down to know they should be avoided, yet we choose to watch them for hours every week.

It has to have a negative effect on a person.

>>
>>69677362

hey i always enjoyed phineas and ferb, that show was good
>>
>>69677613
Ok, except OP wasn't talking about "villains just being dicks because they want", he was talking about ALL main characters. If not one person on either the hero OR villain's side was at least a little bit sarcastic or a jerk, and everyone was a perfectly logical polite person, that would be strange and unrealistic to boot.
>>69677661
You sound like a pussy. That probably makes me a "toxic person" but seriously, if you want to watch shows with 100% happiness and rainbows, just put on some Nick Jr or something

>>
>>69677948
Before the fat idiot replies, "how can a show make you stressed? LMAO"

How can a show make you happy? or laugh?

Oh, it can make you feel good, but it can't make you feel bad?

Fucking moron

the characters in that show are always so ugly
I can't even pretend to take stevenposting seriously

>snarky/sarcastic/bitter/mean

A world without people who have these attributes is literally unattainable. It's like asking to stop people killing.

Thinking TV such a big impact on people's lives is literally retarded.

I think people are smart enough to know this, so I'll just presume this is good bait. 7/10

>>
>>69677948
>>69677967
Watching a television jerk act like a jerk should NOT cause you noticeable mental stress. If it's a show about a jerk who commits brutal acts of onscreen torture, I understand why someone would get stressed by that. But not if it's the average tv show with some characters simply being rude to each other.

Also you seem quite quick to throw insults at me, for a person who's trying to police the dickishness of entertainment characters. Are you projecting?

I actually think Kramer had the most empathy/humanity out of the four. It was subtle, but occasionally you could pick up on it. He was also the most grounded and satisfied with life, despite obviously being the quirkiest of the bunch.

That's really not saying much. He was a fucking sociopath, too. He'd just as easily ruin a person's life and go on as if he'd just finished brushing his teeth.

He wasn't calculating and deviously deceptive like George, or as blindly self-involved as Elaine, or aloof to the point of psychopathic like Jerry, but he gave zero fucks.
