There is something about Hicks that most people who don't care about stand-up as a performance art don't get about Hicks. Hicks was a master of timing and tonality, he wasn't just yelling 24/7. He was actually a extremely well refined public speaker, which is why a lot of people call him a "comedian's comedian."
