God dammit Lynch's Dune was a master class in costume and set design.
That awful "true to the books" sfi-fi channel version looked so fucking cheap after getting used to the lavish look of the Lynch version.
>>
>>69623967
The miniseries got the Baron right.
>>
>>69624153
The sets were good mostly. I liked the costumes too, for the most part. I think it was pretty good considering the budget they were probably working with.
>>
>>69623967
>>69624101
Jodorowsky's Dune would have been interesting aesthetic wise, but I would rather see a faithful adaption of the books. Jodorowsky is highly overrated on this board. He is decent at best.
>>
>>69624153
I've read the entire series save for his son's trash. I love both them and the Lynch's movie, but for different reasons.
>>
>>69624319
Im pretty sure that feyd is first described wearing a dress and reclining on a sofa or something so I dunno I think that cartoon version could be more accurate but I could be mistaken not saying he's trap mode cause he's definitely athletic otter mode but he might be a little umm queer idk
>>
>>69624250
Dune is overdue for a bigger budget treatment or serialized TV show. GameOfThrones success should make that feasible. I'm afraid ofmuch the from the books would get butchered in the translation from page to screen though.

>>69624363
Same, although I did listen to his son's volumes on audiobook while I was at work, you didn't miss much. I think the sfi-fi version is closer to Herbert's vision but Lynch's take was so unique and confident in it's style that I can't help but love it.
>>
>>69624501
No he isn't. Feyd is great gladiator in the books although he uses a poison blade. He has killed something like 200 men in the arena. The queer aspect just comes from the Baron admiring him.
>>
>>69624541
Exactly. I love Lynch's take on it. He was a good choice. It's hard to find a director who would do the source material justice, but Lynch was weird enough to make it entertaining.
>>
>>69624541
No it isn't. The movie and then later adaptation into the miniseries was fine

No, I have to agree that a proper Dune movie is wanted. Not a Peter Berg directed shitfest that was planned, but a young risky, talented director who had a production company's money to back him/her would be interesting to see.

I just wonder if a movie can do it justice. It's so deep lore that to have a film less than four hours long, they'd have to gloss over things and do shitty montages. A miniseries with a bigger budget might be the best move.

His version was so far from Dune.
>world establishes menatats and stops the production of robots
>Jodo decides that the Emperor is paranoid and gets a robot lookalike to fill in for himself
>also Paul trains with a robot

That's just one thing that his version would have been so far removed from the book.

But I would have loved to seen the unbelievable cast and bizarre effects from O'Bannon. Plus Foss' ship design was crazy.
>>
>>69624541
This. A tv show of 10-12 epiosdes for 5-7 seasons could cover the entire series. Or at least Frank's books and maybe the last two books.

And HBO is the only destination I see viable. Showtime is garbage and wouldn't house it; FX possible but they fucked over WoT so I don't want them to have Dune; and AMC is awful. Starz could be another option but I doubt they have the means to giving Dune it's much needed high budgets.
>>
>>69625998
I'd kill for an animated mini-series Dune.
>>
>>69626038
In a Heavy Metal style, I could see it. But it'd probably only do the first book and leave the end of it open.
>>

I would have loved to have Salvador Dali as the Padishah Emperor Shaddam IV. It would be akin to Marlon Brando as Kurtz in Apocalypse Now.
>>
>>69626038
>>69626082
I'd rather see something grand and cinematic in style like a high fantasy sci fi Prince of Egypt, complete with all the messianic overtones. The grand style would be fitting for the scope of the dune universe but something like that would probably be more costly than building sets for a miniseries.
>>
>>69626246

It's probably too risky for a large studio production given the amount of money it takes to distribute these days. They should never make another Dune series or movie. As we have seen with game of thrones modern series writing has become horrible. And any deviation from the books will lead to ripples throughout the story.

Yes. But he also knew the tielaxu always give their targets a way to escape. He discusses as much with alia when the find the body in the desert. Paul is allowing the conspiracy to play out because he is trying to find a way out of the trap. Having enemies who are concealed from his oracular visions (further muddied by the dune tarot).

That being said paul is disgusted by his empire and sees the same weaknesses creeping in. Dune messiah is about the tragedy of prescience (literally the theme of all the books). Paul tried to hide from the golden path because he was afraid. Leto II saw the necessity and sacrificed his humanity for humanity.

I would recommend all 6 Frank Herbert ones (it was supposed to be 2 trilogies with 4th one a bridge between them, but he died before writing the 7th one), though the precise quality of the first book is not present on the other ones (except for maybe the 4th one).
