How does /tv/ rank the last yearly big horror films 2013-2016? Let's try to make a voting. If the thread reaches a good number of posts, we can have something of a general opinion.
Mind you that none of them are 'shit/garbage' or 'best film ever', so try to not sperg out.

My own:
It Follows > The VVitch > The Babadook > The Conjuring
>>
>>69312352
Didn't watch The Conjuring
The VVitch>>>>>>> It Dooks
>>
>>69312669
It follows is horror?
>>
>>69312826
Of course
>>
>>69312352
>It follows
Does a good job at emulating John Carpenter's use of tension, it lets things just simmer and burn. It has one of, if not the most original horror concepts in recent history. Also, the director does a good job at making things feel surreal or dream like, it's very hard to pin down what time span the movie is taking place in. There's no jumps in logic, where the monster violates it's own rules (from what I can remember). The only gripe I've got is that sometimes the acting was a little poor.

>The conjuring
The only thing I remember of this film was that there was some good tension, and good jump scares if you're into that. The only gripe I've got with it is that it kind of laid on a little heavy the whole jesus saving your soul deal.

Can't speak for the other two, except /x/ doesn't seem to like the Babadook, and that the VVitch had a great soundtrack.
>>
it follows is the worst fliick on that list, followed by the conjuring

the conjuring > the wwitch >>> the babadook >>>>>>>>>>>> it follows
>>
>The Conjuring
Solid throughout, had some scares.

>The Babadook
Amazing atmosphere but the end was shit.

>It Follows
Started out good but about halfway through it turned to shit I thought.

>The VVitch
Overhyped pretentious garbage way too full of itself. Boring slog with extremely forced language. Ends just when it starts to become a little interesting. Fell asleep once for a few minutes during it due to how boring it was.
>>
>>69312669
but the witch is painfully slow. it is honestly a really boring film.

>>
Conjuring, 8/10. good story, solid performances.
babadookie. 4/10
it follows, 7/10. pretty good but jarring plot holes and a shitty ending bring it down.
the VVitch, 10/10 all around. honestly it shouldn't be ranked with the others. it's even better if you think of it as a period piece first and psychological thriller second. Which is easy since the cast did an amazing job playing 1600's puritans.
if nothing else the Witch has turned out to be the best pleb filter since Andre Rublev.
>>
>>69315465
great flick and top comfy horror

>>
>>69315903
>Conjuring 8/10
>it follows 7/10

lol opinion disregarded
>>
>>69315901
>nothing happens

what are you even talking about, the only period where not much happens is right after the baby get kidnapped/eaten and thats still fairly entertaining. i dont even really like slow movies (most of 2001 was painful to watch) but the vvitch wasn't slow.
>>
>>69315901
>nothing happens
I seriously don't understand where people are getting this. Disaster befalls this family throughout the whole movie, between disasters are superstitious emotional meltdowns.
>>
>>69312352
>The Conjuring
Never saw it

>The Babadook
Pretty solid in terms of atmosphere and scares, but I'm getting pretty tired of "was it all in their head? who knows! :^)" Know whats scarier than something "in your head" or "a manifestation of neurosis?" An actual fucking thing that can fucking kill you.

>It Follows
Unique and scary throughout. Killer music, too.

>The VVitch
>Atmospheric horror that starts out "off" and things just get worse for everyone involved from there (like The Shining). While not the scairest of the bunch, the best made. Plebs cannot into. As another poster said, excellent pleb filter.
>>
>>69312352
>all these fuckers praising the vvitch
mercy guys, it was really good, but I dont think it's a 'great'
I feel like the people who are so enamoured with it are pretty casual horror folk.
>>
>>69316286
>An actual fucking thing that can fucking kill you.
What if it's all in your head/neurosis, but then it's actually real precisely because of that reason, like how HR Giger was scared of his visions being "only in his head" and this is like that shit come true. N'ah mean?
>>
>>69316315
i saw it more as a thriller/drama than anything
>>
>>69316315
It's not the best thing ever, but I'd sure as fuck put it over the rest of the 5/10s in this thread.
>>
>>69312352
I'm not a horror pleb and I watched all of this. Quality wise The VVitch is leagues above anything else but I wouldn't call it a horror movie.
>>
I thought Babadook was horrible
>>
>>69316372
>>69316427
oh yes absolutely to you both, but people heralding it as the next godsend in horror are shilling pretty hard. They need to take a step back and re-evaluate.
>>
>>69316368
>HR Giger was scared of his visions being "only in his head"
Tell me more.
>>
it follows was so fucking good
>>
>>69316486
I haven't seen anyone do that, but if they are it's probably because it's been a long time since there was a really compelling horror classic. Time will tell if The VVitch qualifies, but I'm pretty sure the enthusiasm will die down, and give way to more realistic praise of the film.
>>
In the case of 2016, it's only May, so maybe until the year ends something bigger than The VVitch could appear? Is there anything strong to come out soon?
>>
>WOULDST DOTH HAST THOU THINE CANST GIVETH

>/tv/'s rating:

>>
>>69316570
When Alien's writer Dan O'Bannon met him (for the first time IIRC, before Alien was an actual project), Giger produced drugs (opium) and asked if he wanted some. O'Bannon didn't want them, and asked him why he took that stuff. Giger said that he was afraid of his visions. O'Bannon naturally pointed out that it was all in his mind. Giger's reply: "that is what I'm afraid of."
>>
>>69312352
just watched 10 Cloverfield Lane and I would say that movie is much better than the other 4. no jump scares, non-retarded protag, good ending, overall a solid movie

Not him, but I think its biggest offense, aside from being completely uninspired and unnecessary, is that it starts out at a high level of mean, gross violence and doesn't raise the bar for the climax. It's just a steady stream of gnarly imagery till the end. It wasn't done with much tact.

Stephen King said recently he was actually frightened while watching it. I wouldn't call it a horror either atleast not in a conventional sense, but the atmosphere and nuance in the Witch can certainly be terrifying if you let yourself be immersed in it. and of course plebs can't. the accents is the biggest complainant I see on /tv/ ffs.

It's not meaningless, it's a valid criticism. There wasn't anything spectacular going on in this movie except for the way it looked which when compared to nearly everything else in the genre gave it a heads up. It wasn't particularly scary.

The fact that you think the movie is worthless because it failed to make you/ your girlfriend scared shows a pretty sad example of foolishness.

You're supposed to feel the characters' fear first; the fear you (ostensibly) feel is an added incentive for people who enjoy that type of entertainment.

What an odd, arbitrary span of time.

Why?
>we can have something of a general opinion.
Why would we want that?

What is the point of a thread like this?
>>
>>69323094
We're to 150 replies, it's too late to question the thread, just go with it.
>>
>>69323094
It's not. There has been a phenomenon of giant hype for a single horror film in the last years. So, the dates.

Because it's a thing that can be done.

And why not?

I invite you to question what's the point of any of the threads that litter the board.
>>
>>69312352
I've watched the 3 of them personally I liked the conjuring so it would be:
conjuring>it follows>witch>babadook (haven't seen it)

but I recognize that it follows is overall better than the conjuring which tends to be cheaper horror maybe a more fair order would be:
It Follows>Witch>Babadook>The Conjuring

I haven't watched babadook because I like to feel scared when watching a horror movie and I heard this one is more about depression and shitty feels and has no monster, I can understand why it's good but it's just not my thing and I'm really not that interested in seeing it, specially because I was so hyped about witch and while it was pretty good I was kinda dissapointed because I wanted more horror, the ending(last 10-15 mins) is literally GOAT tho.
>>
>>69323345
Thanks for reasoning
>>
>>69323345
The Babydick has a monster in it and the movie is a pretty traditional horror flick with creepy shit and some jump scares. You heard wrong.
>>
>>69323499
Thanks downloading now, but if so why did normies hate it?
>>
>>69323559
Well, /tv/ because it got critical success and has a feminist angle. Normies offsite I'm not sure, they think anything is boring.

The Witch
The Babadook
It Follows
The Conjuring
The Witch had me fully engrossed the entire movie from the dialogue, tone, OST, and premise. I absolutely loved it from start to finish.
Kind of a toss up between It Follows and The Bobadook. I think I liked It Follows more or rather it had better highs but the final act was fucking stupid regardless of what the director was trying to do.
Conjuring was solid. It spooked me a bit and that's all I can ask for but as far as the film as whole I don't think it's in the same league as the other 3
>>
>>69323559
They didn't like the hardcore, visceral mother/son sex scenes.
>>
If VVitch was just a commentary on the paranoia of witchcraft and the overzealous religiosity of Puritans, then it would be 10/10

But it just had to throw in the Satanic supernatural shit at the end. Overblown tripe.
>>
>>69324111
It still works as the first one, I don't see what the problem is.
>>
>>69322937
Great plot development. No character development. Entertaining to be sure, but lacks the depth I think is necessary for a greatest movie.

>Starry Eyes
Felt like a kid putting on Daddy Polanski's shoes tbqh famalam
>Goodnight Mommy
I heard the trailer is better than the film itself.
>>
>>69326025
That's why patricians don't watch trailers. They only do bad things to the experience.
And I liked Starry Eyes a lot tb.h fàm
>>
>>69326152
It felt like a distinctly inferior version of Rosemary's Baby; all the characters were hateful and I didn't care when they died, and as such I wasn't scared by it.
Why did you like it?
>>
>>69326214
The decaying of the character and the sense of dread all around were the parts I consider the best. Also I thought the girl gave a fine performance.
>>
>>69326281
The decay was certainly the best part of the film; and her acting didn't detract from it. It just wasn't particularly special for me.
>>
>>69326025
>I heard the trailer is better than the film itself.
the film had a much different tone from that trailer but I still enjoyed myself and was scared
>>
>>69317915
>The Witch and It Follows both in great tier
There's a case to be made for Witch but It Follows was fucking shit.
>>
>>69326783
Ok, I'll give it a looksee then. Thanks
>>
>>69326789
I wouldn't say it was shit. The idea was novel enough, I think. But I would definitely not say it was great. Happy I saw it; wouldn't ever watch it again.
>>
It Follows > The Babadook > The Conjuring

Enjoyed all 3 desu.

The Witch is on my to-watch list.

Well, 170 posts in, it seem the order of preference- ignoring the shitposts and recognizing that each has vehement haters- on /tv/ is:

The VVitch > It Follows > The Conjuring > The Babadook

The Conjuring

Never saw witch but it has to be better than It Follows and Babadook which were both garbage. I guess Babadook is better though because aside from muh single motherhood ending it was decently scary for 45 minutes or so.

Muh don't slut shame was garbo.
>>
The Conjuring and The Babadook are actually garbage movies though. If you like those try paranormal activity and sinister 2. It Follows is decent, haven't seen the vvitch yet but I want to
