>“Lord up in of this time bitch” is a rather delightful /tv/ meme that spawned when Wilding, a tripcode user, attempted to make a “Lord of time up in this bitch” macro, using the shot of 11 shrugging in Rosanna Calvierri’s throne.

>However, he failed to some extent. Due to the column layout, the text could easily be read from left to right, thus producing the phrase “lord up in of this time bitch”, which is nonsense but seems to almost make sense in a timey-wimey sort of way.

>As a result, the phrase tends to show up in nearly every /tv/ Doctor Who thread in both text and revamped image-macro form. This is an example of the latter, based on the original layout but using a different frame from a different episode.

So, I need a pastebin or an info dump or something.

I've watched Who ever since Eccleston, but I've never been a part of the fandom (I've just plain and simply never stumbled onto a forum for it or anything). What's the general opinions on things? How are the doctors/series rated? What's the deal with Moffat?

Generally Tennant is the favorite, mostly because of sex appeal/shipping, but all the Docs are fairly well liked. Moffat has been writing since the start, showrunning since 2010, and a certain segment of people have hated him since... about 2010, for various reasons.

Is this trolling? Or do I just disagree with the fan opinions? I've rewatched everything from Rose to Donna a few times. Eccleston's stuff sometimes came off to me as needlessly gritty sci-fi, but Tennat's stuff was usually solid. My memeory of Smiff is lacking, but I just remember getting lost in the plot. Capaldri has been solid so far (on average).

>>69309611
>>69309864
Do tell?
>>
>>69313396
Come to think of it. I think my biggest problem with Who so far is that it often builds up to shit but hasn't delivered since Rose came back with Donna. Where's the doctor becoming a vengeful god? Where's the doctor and River doing shit?

Oh, and one big thing I want to get off my chest, was I the only one that thought this? In the episode where Clara was throwing the TARDIS keys into lava. I was fully expecting the Doctor to turn around, click his fingers, open the door and fucking leave her there and let the River adventures begin. I was so fucking pissed when that didn't happen.
>>
>>69314113

The Doctor already knew what she was going to do and let her play out her little fantasy power trip in order to get it out of her system. His caring for her was unconditional, and making her realise what she had become and what she was willing to do would hopefully be a powerful enough lesson for him to not need to give her any more aggro
>>
>>69314229
>You missed the point of the scene imo
I get the point of the scene - it was to show how much of a shit Clara gives.

>>69314303
>Yeah, I think you were the only one. Don't get me wrong, I think he forgave her a little too easily but killing her would have just been fucked up.
But she totally fucking deserved it. If it wasn't a drug-induced dream sequence, Clara would've completely fucking intentionally, ended The Doctor right there. Killing countless, just because she wants her boyfriend back. That's pathetic.
>>

le cuck meme
>>
>>69314113
>Where's the doctor becoming a vengeful god?
I mean that's not going to happen because it's fucking silly. Every time the possibility has been raised, it has been flatly rejected, for very obvious reasons.

>Where's the doctor and River doing shit?
River being the actual companion for a run of episodes would mean her upgrading from semi-regular character to full lead. The problem with this is that the show requires new people to be the companion, in order to keep artificially generating public interest. River has always been a character whose adventures are mostly off-screen for this reason, although Capaldi's last Christmas special goes some way towards filling the hole this creates and basically resolves her story.

>I was fully expecting the Doctor to turn around, click his fingers, open the door and fucking leave her there and let the River adventures begin. I was so fucking pissed when that didn't happen.

Doesn't matter though. The Doctor wouldn't have left his worst enemy behind to die if he could just drop them back on their home planet and have them be no further threat. It's not in his character.

>Killing countless
Careful, when you prioritise the survival of the Doctor because of the hypothetical people he has yet to save, you become morally equivalent to the Teselecta from Let's Kill Hitler. The Doctor himself would never agree, having wilfully sacrificed himself on various occasions.

Anyway. The Doctor felt responsible for what he had turned Clara into. The taste for his level of manipulative power that he had been recklessly encouraging in her for all of that series, combined with her controlling tendencies, was a recipe for disaster when faced with the meaningless sudden death of a loved one.
Also not only had she effectively been his friend for over 900 years at this point, accompanying him at a crucial stage in his life, but he was very sentimentally attached to her and this was pushed further in series 9. A different Doctor might very easily have fucked her off at that point, but 12 is an extreme sort of person.

Dunno, I'm only really familiar with the most popular ones (DBZ, Death Note, Fullmetal, One Punch Man etc). There's probably something out there, though, enough of them have time travel and/or sassy British protagonists.
>>
>>69321870
I don't really watch anime, but the closest thing I can think of is Gantz, which is pretty fucking far from Doctor Who. You got "monster of the week" kind of alien invasions and that's pretty much where the similarities end. It's full of over the top gore, sex, giant tits and a big black ball that makes puns and sends a bunch of confused teenagers out to get killed by aliens.

Time travel animu:
Steins;Gate: Faction Paradox tier time war never and there are only like five time lines for the show which is kinda annoying. It's also a bit kiddy and full of memes (think Tenth Doctor tier)
Erased. It's kinda a bit like Moffat's story in the Decalogs (Consequences)

Haven't bothered watching any other time travel animes and there aren't that many of them.
There are lots of good scifi books though:
Hyperion features time travel as a background: think Miles Lawrence.
Firefall by Watts: I would best describe this book as Evangelion (Anime) + Interference (Lawrence Miles) + Vampire Science (Kate Orman and Blum)

Short stories:
The Nine Billion Names of God - "the stars are all going out" aesthetics
Super-Toys Last All Summer Long - Forest of the Dead/Silence in the Library

I can't help but wonder if some of the Who lore is based on a bit of Vance:
>"I am a magician indeed, with knowledge of every spell yet devised, the sleight of runes, incantations, designs, exorcisms, talismans. I am Master Mathematician, the first since Phandaal, yet I can do nothing to your brain without destroying your intelligence, your personality, your soul—for I am no god. A god may will things to existence; I must rely on magic, the spells which vibrate and twist space."
>He learned the secret of renewed youth, many spells of the ancients, and a strange abstract lore that Pandelume termed "Mathematics."

That's not true though. He's openly criticized in The Famili of Blood for starting the whole mess and Joan basically calls him a coward for not wanting to turn back into John Smith. Ditto in Dalek for being too bloodthirsty. The whole point of the Impossible Planet two-parter is that he the Doctor has his limits.

I like Water of Mars but the idea that we're meant to disapprove of the Doctor's actions in the end is pretty ridiculous. His arrogance and anger were bad, but his actions were moral. And even with Adelaide's suicide he still saved innocent lives.

Also it just occurred to me that if he was very set on keeping history intact, he could have still saved them. Just not taken them back to Earth. or not back to that time. So that everybody would still assume they died on Mars and history would continue as normal, but they get to live elsewhere. Not that that would have made a better episode, or that they would have been okay with that (although I'm sure Adelaide would have rather lived on some nice little planet than eat her gun)
>>
>>69331890
I appreciate the Doctor being portrayed as fallible. That's definitely one thing Moffat is consistent about. I guess he's a sacred cow for some so it gets lost on them but seeing how easy it would be for him to start abusing the kind of power he has access to makes his heroic actions more meaningful to me.
>>
>>69332562
Never Doctor morals made me angry more than here in pic related.
It's even worse than Kill the Moon.

in the case of family of blood though there's that whole speech with the kid stroking his ego and it basically sums his move of bringing the family there in the first place as 'he was being kind' and takes the loss of john smith as another opportunity to lay on the angst for the doctor which dilutes joan's message
>>
What's the worst Patrick Troughton serial?
>>
>>69332614
Never listened to it, what happens?
>>
>>69332488
Maybe it's just my interpretation, but I think the Doctor's reasons in The Waters of Mars were almost entirely egoistical.
He's just being told that he's destined to die soon, so he thinks that if he can change history for those people he can change it for himself, and that's why he gets so drunk on his own power. He even says something to the effect of "you don't get a fourth knock" when the water zombies are beating on the door, and the Ood that first predicted his death appears to bring him down to size at the end. If he were really doing it for the crewmembers, he wouldn't have traumatized them as much as he did.

>>69332694
>in the case of family of blood though there's that whole speech with the kid stroking his ego and it basically sums his move of bringing the family there in the first place as 'he was being kind' and takes the loss of john smith as another opportunity to lay on the angst for the doctor which dilutes joan's message
I agree that "he was being kind" is there to justify the Doctor at least in part. But I never saw the scene were he punishes the family as positive. It's not really negative, either. It's more like the kind of awe inspired by a natural phenomenon like a tornado or a volcano, regardless of it being right or wrong.

>Never listened to it, what happens?

7 billions female time-space worm-whales burrow into Sahara and insist that Earth is their usual birthing planet. But one birth 'cause time blast, 7 billions will kill everything on earth.
They don't listen to noone.

Millittary and villain's megacorp goes UNIT on their ass and captures one for dissecting so they can produce means to fight 'em.

Laans finds out that evil males killed their sister and deside to kill all humans as revenge.

David Warner's villain head of megacorp insist on poisoning them all before they wipe out humanity. Granted, they're here 'cause of his haywire time experiments.

But Doctor persuades newly-elected president so she intersepts villain's ship with poison. 'cause of muh genoside and humans always fighting and shit.

Showing that they won't be poisoned, Doc somehow convinses them that only the villain behind it all and they can fuck off already to their real birthing planet.

What do you mean by that? It's not that I liked Tennant necessarily, or even hated Matt Smith, it's just that I felt the writing became generally awful with his introduction. Amy was annoying as fuck, River was necessary, and in general most of the plots were awful and half-baked.
>>
>>69333290

I need to know why you thought they were awful before I can really make a call on it. The tone and execution of the show did change significantly with capaldi, but it might still not be what you want

I can't really put my finger on it considering I last watched them years ago at this point. I don't want to make myself look like anymore of a jackass to someone who knows what they're talking about.

I can't really describe it without using buzzwords. I just felt like the Matt Smith episodes were too meme-laden, almost like they were written for Tumblr or something. That retarded episode where they fought like a bajillion of those creatures from Blink. "you guys like Blink, right? Well what if we just made it bigger?!" Or that arc where Amy was abandoned and became a """badasss""" warrior chick with shitty age make-up. I also remember some terrible episode with Nazis in it. Or "The Doctor's Wife" which appeared to be utter fan service. They all just seemed like they were trying too hard while being borderline nonsensical.

I don't think "Tone" plays into my complaints. Do you think the quality of the writing has gone up since then? Are the stories actually interesting and well done now?
>>
>>69333628

Writing is much less meme-laden in the capaldi era

I think it is ongoing, yes.

Basically, the Doctor believed Ashildr/Me was the hybrid. However, Ashildr/Me proposed that the hybrid was in fact the Doctor and Clara together, which the Doctor accepted. But was Ashildr/Me correct?

They could still come back to it at some point.
>>

It isn't.
>>
>>69338921
Moffat wasn't expecting to write any more after Christmas.
>>
>>69338444
WTF? The anon was saying that he/she didn't rank Matt Smith's seasons very highly.

And it would seem /who/ partly agrees, because series 6 and 7 are in the bottom 3 ranked.
>>
>>69308673
The Giant Rat is a real shame.
If they had wet it; covered it in grease and shit, and filmed it on 35mm at Ealing, so they could tightly edit the footage, it would have been a really good effect for the era/budget.
>>
>>69338672
It's basically been solved in Hell Bent, but I wouldn't put it past Moffat to come back to it in the future anyway.
Remember how he brought back the cracks in time from S5 and the room from The God Complex in The Time of the Doctor, even though the former plot had been already resolved and the latter didn't need resolving?

/who/ has a very particular set of likes and dislikes that pretty much counter tumblr. Saying anything contrary is met with "bait," "go back to tumbleddit," etc. Obviously we're all individuals with our own tastes but if you don't think the hivemind exists then you obviously haven't been on /who/ long enough.
>>
>>69321870
always felt that One Piece was very similar to Doctor Who. Group of friends travel from island to island, they arrive, learn more about this particular new world, help the local helpless people, defeat the local evil government and then leave again for another adventure. Replace island with alien planet and you have basically Doctor Who. Difference is, One Piece adventures are about 20 times longer than classic doctor who stories and it gets pretty repetitive.
>>
His MO is so obvious.
>>
>>69341015
There is no hivemind. The 'S9 is pigshit/S9 is GOAT' argument meme should make that clear enough. And a significant portion of tumblr dislikes River too, you're just butthurt that she's not very popular here. The only thing /who/ near unanimously agreed on is loving the Capaldick, but even then I've seen a few detractors.
>>
"I broke all my own rules. I became the Hybrid" said the Doctor. He also stands in the ruins of Gallifrey at the end of time for his conversation with Me, as prophesied, and he risks all of space and time to heal his own loss by trying to alter a fixed point: Clara's death, as prophesied. And as Me rightly works out the Hybrid bit refers to a joining of two personalities, each driving the other on. Brought together by Missy as a means to further her ambitions to get her friend back by getting him to embrace the chaos she loves. I don't see how this arc can be viewed as unresolved, or how the Hybrid can still be a matter of speculation when all the answers are given right there in the final episode.

/who/ rates some of his writing highly but also shits on Moffat plenty so it's hardly a bias. I liked a lot of the RTD era but I didn't rate that many single episodes highly, and JNT's was very uneven up until the last two seasons. Most would say earlier classic Who was better. More like Planet of the PHUCKING DULL.
There were some really nice ideas in this story but it could have done with being a 4-parter rather than a 6, the padding in it is painfully obvious.

Some nice Doctor/Jo moments throughout, though.
