Holy fuck was 2001 legitimately the worst year in the history of Hollywood filmmaking?
>>69306418
2009
a beautiful mind was fine. training day was great. fellowship was great. memento was cool. the royal tenenbaums was great. ghost world was nice. mullholland drive was good. shrek wa-

>he looks at the Oscars as a way of determining the best movies released in any given year
are you a literal retard?
>>69306418
>Jimmy Neutron was nominated for best animated feature
Jesus fucking Christ
>>69306418
A.I.
Mulholland Dr.
In the Bedroom
Donnie Darko
The Royal Tenenbaums
The Others
etc
Mulholland Drive would have swept if they had any integrity
No, because Mulholland Drive came out.
>>69306418
Wow, A Beautiful Mind won over Gosford Park?
What a terrible snub.
>>69306651
>Donnie Darko
>Not a part of the reason it was a bad year
>Academy Award winning director Ron Howard
This is just so wrong. I love Apollo 13 but the guy is fucking artless. Oscars should be awarded for going above and beyond and elevating the medium of film, not for being rich and powerful enough to greenlight any film you want and successfully managing to shoot it in the flattest most lifeless way possible.
The man is just simply not a good filmmaker.
>>69306707
sounds like you might be a pleb mate
Donnie Darko is a very good movie about what it's like to be young and in love
you've been poisoned by the memes, a fact made especially obvious by the picture you posted
>>69306766
>Donnie Darko is a very good movie
He said it again.
>>69306550
Shrek was GOAT or should I say...DONKEY
>>69306722
Ron "No I'm not Spielberg but at least I'm not Zemeckis" Howard
>>69306795
>>69306707

>>69306795
What a lucid argument. I've been convinced! Thank you my memey friend. You've done some great work this afternoon!
>>69306907
>le smug sarcasm
You need to go
>>69306766
I got a copy of donnie darko free in a shitty tabloid back when I was basically a kid. the movie then suddenly achieved cult status out of nowhere
>>69306972
Is it possible for you to reply without using multiple memes per post or is that just not something you're capable of?
it's becoming clear that you're a retard so thank you for reassuring me that Donnie Darko is in fact a good movie.
>>69307005
I'm not the guy you're arguing with. I just think you're a fucking idiot and you need to go home to reddit.
>>69306418
>A Beautiful Mind
I liked it, but should have gone to LOTR or Gosford Park
>Actor
Denzel did a good job, but it wasn't on the same scale as his competition.
>Supporting Actor
Poor Ian.
>Screenplay
Well deserved but I would've gone with Memento.
>Animated
Based choice. Fuck Pixar.
>Director
At least Peter gets retribution with RoTK sweeping 2003
>Actress
They clearly gave Denzel and Halle Oscars only because they're black and honored Sidney Poitier that year. Fuck they even gave best song to a shitty forgettable hip hop song.
>Supporting Actress
Pretty forgettable, should have been Kate Winslet or Helen Mirren.
>Adapted Screenplay
How can it not be LoTR?
>Foreign Language
Nobody gives a shit.
>>69306418
>gosford park
>i am sam
>ali
>memento
>royal tenenbaums
>mulholland drive
pretty enjoyable year fellas
>>69307066
>would've gone with Memento
>Foreign Language Nobody gives a shit.
>>69307055
that's amazing that you're not that guy and yet you also can't respond without recourse to memes
thank you for being a retard. it makes my day better.
>>69307175
No one should put themselves through the meat grinder of trying to convince a pleb that Donnie Darko isn't a shit movie. If you like it, then you like it. I can only pray for your salvation at that point.
yeah all those movies were bad
DREDD AND EDGE OF TOMORROW WERE EBINNN THOUGH!!!!
>>69306418
>le feel-good schizophrenia movie sweeps
>indisputable best film of the decade, Mulholland Drive, gets exactly one nom and no wins
>Akiva fucking Goldsman wins best writer
what a joke
>>69307756
What movies do you like?
It was a pretty weird year. Not to say 9/11 happened.
>Amelie got 5 Oscar noms
Wew
>>69307826
>2001
>inoffensive, feel-good, happy ending, romantic, character "drama"
>dark, cryptic, surreal, suspenseful, manipulative, off-putting neo-noir
I wonder which Americans were looking for out of their entertainment this year...
>>69306870
Surprisingly accurate
>>69308315
Thanks :3
>>69307148
Angry foreigner whose first language isn't english detected.
>>69306418
Kubrick definitely got snubbed that year.
>>69306722
It was to makeup for his Apollo 13 but yeah, he was the shitty spot in an otherwise clean room.
