I live in the mountains of Virginia, near West Virginia. There is a vast expanse of poor hillbilly honky towns. Some of these houses don't have indoor plumbing and everybody is okay with it. The roofs are falling in and every yard has a few dilapidated vehicles that will get fixed "one day".

Poor, heavily armed, some areas like the trailer parks look like third world countries. BUT, most crime is drug related. Meth, weed, drunk in public. No one getting shot or robbed. Last year a guy got stabbed to death but that was a Mexican who did it and he fucking vanished.
Not too long ago a guy got pulled over for being passed out drunk on his horse, but he got off by saying since he was asleep and since the horse knew the way home on its own, he wasn't technically driving drunk.
