At the very least with the R + L = J theory, were it not fucking sat on for 16 years and spread around the internet like it's gospel because it's so fucking likely and you'd have to be a complete retard to challenge it, you would have to actually dig into the books and put the evidence together yourself to come to that conclusion. It's not something any character in Westeros has already figured out and told the pov/reader so they barely have to use their brain like the rest of the possibilitie.
Obviously the Ashara and Wylla stuff is expanded on in the later books to give reasoning why any of the characters would believe that in the first place, but that doesn't make either the answer to the Jon's parentage question.
