How would you rate his Spiderman performance?

Perfectly nerdy/10
>>
Literally 100/100
>>
its the one time i enjoyed the quips.
>>
Really great. Was weary of a Highschool Spiderman but he was one of the highlights
>>
>>69217115
It was a serious film with very little "quipping," it had a few actual jokes. Spider-Man actually "quipped" and it worked, because it was his character and it fit the situation.

Ant-Man makes some actual "jokes" and they are totally different than the Age of Ultron quips we got every other line.

Russos are masters.

Yeah, that's a real joke. It related to the character and to the situation Ant-Man was taking on with the "you hear little voices in your head." Difference between a quip "Hey buddy I think you dropped this!"
and a joke.

Shit was masterful.

Fantastic. Best yet. That said though, I dont think a movie with this kind of spiderman would work, infact I think it would be annoying as fuck. 9/10. He did a stellar job being a nerdy dweeb who was star struck by his peers and didn't know what to do in a fight due to being nervous, but still having abilities way above everyone else. Also, his line about Star Wars was pretty spot on, but almost on the nose.

I really liked the characterization in this movie for him. He's young, naive, and just got his powers and is still learning what he can do. He gets manipulated by stark to add some muscle to his team, borderline getting blackmailed. And when facing off against experienced opponents, he holds his own incredibly well while still keeping his upbeat quippy persona. That whole time he was fighting he kept ogling all the cool ass tech he's never had a chance to see before (falcons wings, buckies arm).

I don't know guys, this spiderman was pretty perfect. My only complaint was how forced his presence felt. So suddenly stark knows about spiderman and keeps it to himself the whole time? The fact that he just automatically knew who he was without any real explanation peeved me. But besides that, the actual actor and his performance were terrific. I just seriously hope he doesn't look as horrificly cgi in his solo movie like in Civil War. It's so fucking obvious he was edited into the airport fight(the exception being when Tony tells him to go home).

I feel like people here are confusing quipping with "making the audience laugh"
>>
>>69219023
People here don't understand the difference between canned stupid fucking responses (QUIPPING) that are meaningless and actual personality in a conversation.

Spider-Man does the quipping. Canned meaningless responses like
>YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO REMAIN SILENT
and
>HEY BUDDY I THINK YOU DROPPED THIS

But they fit. They are part of the character, to make QUIPS.

Actual jokes and casual conversation is not "quipping," it's just how shit goes.

I think it's a little weird that they're seeming to merge the Peter Parker and Spider-Man personalities. Normally Peter Parker is pretty mild-mannered, but when he puts on the suit he gets all confident and quippy. But in this they just kind of made him have the same personality throughout. It's not necessarily bad, and in the end I did like Spider-Man in this movie, but it was different from what I've come to expect so it was a bit jarring and took some getting used to.

They are literally quips. They're short, punchy, "clever" statements fired back and forth between the characters. It's certainly an exchange, but it's an exchange of quips. I had no problem with any of them, but let's not get carried away with mislabeling it entirely.
>>

He was all nervous talking to Stark, a billionnaire super hero celebrity.

He put on the costume and was bantering like crazy against all the super heroes. Seems like the way it should to me.
>>
>>69219268
>>69219184

I see it as two things: either he's dropped the bridge to kill him, knowing he can't deal with it. Or he knows he's strong enough to deal with it but drops it to incapacitate him.

But if he knows he's strong why would he drop the bridge if Spidey can hold it, or more to Cap's estimate, grab it, leave it and go back to arresting Cap?
>>

He was great. He actually felt like a nerdy teenager trying to be a smartass. I think he'll be able to carry his own movie in Homecoming.

I didn't really see him overpowering Spider-Man though. What I saw was him using the fact the physics are a thing and despite being incredibly strong Spider-Man doesn't weigh a whole lot.

He was getting Spider-Man into the air because he realized he couldn't overpower him.

Although I will say it is bullshit that punching Spidey even did anything or that Spidey only seemed to use his spider-sense once during that whole fight.

I'm willing to accept though that the reason Cap didn't get his ass beat is that Spidey wasn't trying to hurt him at all but rather just trying to web him up and was using exactly as much force as he thought necessary. Does this look like a fucking kid to you?

With the bullshit of "inhumans was moved to make room for indiana jones 5" I think its more likely Marvel is getting confident with Spider-man and wants have space for him in the future. They can't just announce another one, cause it's still a Sony distribution issue, whatever.... but I feel they may do a 2nd spider-man movie in 2019. They'd rather space things out and let spidey be in summer/fall 2019 and do Inhumans another year.

screenshot this, Im guaranteeing a spidey movie in 2019.

This is during his college days. He WAS a kid at the very start, trying to bang Liz and the other cute schoolgirls and getting bullied by Flash.

No, he wasn't. He never really was or looked like a kid. And his high school phase ended REALLY fast after he got his powers, just like his "wow I'm such a virgin nerd" phase. Peter quickly became more confident and social. You just cling on to those things because you project yourself on the character so much.

The only thing he ever was was young. As in, not old.

Best Movie Spider-Man
>>
>>69222853

Agreed, but Spider-Man came out 15 years ago.
>>
>>69222826
No, because Spider-Man in the movie is actually more young and immature than he ever originally was, and you tried to criticize someone for not reading the comics, just making yourself look like a retard in the process.

Peter was always more of a young adult than a teenager. Ultimate Spider-Man is the one who's all about being a teenager.
>>
>>69220884
He did. Stark just improved it. Sure maybe it didn't have the logo but the colors and the design of the costume was still there.
>>
>>69222903
He was too little on the movie to really say he's too immature. He's awkward, but he could still be trying to provide for his aunt and being responsible.

And when the met the Fantastic Four and the Avengers for the first time in the comics he acted like a fucking brat trying to take them all at once. So he was not really super adult all the time.

I also remember their responses to him being "Jesus, he's just a kid".
>>
>>69222796

Why did you pick such an unflattering photo?
>>
>>69223102
He goes against the Fantastic Four literally in issue number 1.
>>
I really liked that they just glossed over Spider-Man's origins. Marvel seems to be aware that everyone fucking hates being re-told that story at this point. It gives me hope that in his standalone movie they'll either skip the origin story entirely or just briefly recap it and move onto a better story.
>>
>>69222903
>Ultimate Spider-Man is the one who's all about being a teenager.

You do realize that most of the Marvel movies draw heavily from the Ultimate universe, though, right?

But his fight against the Avengers was much later. He was a brat with them too.

And they're all like "jeez calm down kid."
>>
>>69222903
This.

Thank god I'm not the only one who gets this. This guy might even be able to play a good Peter if the script didn't write him as such an immature little shit.

Honestly these days people have taken the whole Spider-Man = funny quips thing way, way too far. I blame all the people who thought he "didn't quip enough" in the Raimi films as starting it.

Spider-Man was never a funny series. Peter's sense of humor wasn't "lol xD" comedy like it is in this movie, it was flippant and sarcastic towards his enemies. His jokes should emphasize that he's a smart kid who's being a smartass, not make him sound like a wide-eyed comic relief idiot. Using Spider-Man as comic relief in general is the worst thing that happens whenever he gets put in a "team" environment these days, even in comics.

I'm fine with them starting out with him in high school but he should act more mature than a high schooler. That was how he was originally written and that was the whole fucking point.

Also, am I the only one who found it kind of annoying that Tony magically knows who he is and it's never even set up? If it's that easy to find out he's in big trouble.
>>
>>69223301
If you're seriously trying to argue that Spider-Man was ever a "kid" in the original comics you're reaching way, way too far. And you're doing that thing I said again about clinging on to a very specific, short phase (he's basically only a loser in this origin) and making it seem like the character is all about that.

Peter's problem were always his aunt, his relationships (the Osborns, Gwen), his job, his public image, etc., not being fucking shy and a kid. He was a success because he had human difficulties that he genuinely struggled with, not because he was a "kid hero." He was actually an adult for most of the time he existed, ever.

Also this guy is right >>69223313

You thinking that is more cringey than if he actually did just find him from a YouTube video.
>>
>>69223313
I have to say that in Raimi films there're literally 2 quips in 3 movies.
>It's you who's out, gobby, out of your mind
>here's your change
Nothing more, and for 3 movies of Spider-man that's fucking nothing.

Not that we can make a John Hughes movie - only John Hughes could - but we’re inspired by him, and merging that with the superhero genre in a way we haven’t done before excites us.”

"small knives" was exactly the sort of joke people expect of Spider-Man and want to see him make. SM1&2 and TASM managed to be good movies, but they never really captured the fact that Peter Parker will *not* shut up.

Which is why I laughed in spite of myself when he shouted "YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO REMAIN SILENT!!" in Civil War. Everyone in the MCU quips, but not usually as inappropriately as Spider-Man does. It's nice to see him joke around like that.

My main impression of Spider-Man is from the comics which I got into before I ever saw the movies. I always thought of Peter as being more or less a grownup even when he was in high school. Yeah, he was written as kind of brash and foolhardy in his early days at times, but he also paid the family bills and successfully flirted with the hot adult secretary at the daily bugle. More than that he had an air of intelligence to him even when he was being flippant, which made him feel grown up.

Marvel has been obsessed with Spider-Man being as young as possible since they did OMD. It came to a head in the horrendous Ultimate TV show which made him a fucking goon and this movie is following that trend. Sometimes there's a reason why older actors should be used for teenage roles.

Or better yet they could have just started with him being in college, which would have made a lot more sense anyway. How fucking irresponsible is it for Tony to bring him into a full on super hero battle when he's a 15 year old who's only had his powers for 6 months and only used them against street thugs?
>>
>>69223313

Difference was the times. Spidey debuted in the 60s, where kids had to grow up pretty quickly. Steve Ditko also made him look like he was 28.

That said getting a superpowered early teen to fight his battles seems like some shit Tony would pull. Has he even quit drinking yet?

>Normally Peter Parker is pretty mild-mannered

The fuck?

Peter is anything but mild mannered. He's got a short temper and he's not afraid to lash out at anyone that isn't Aunt May.
>>
>>69219022
Cap said you've been bust Tony. So seems like to me Cap has heard of Spiderman before he saw him there.
>>
>>69227019
How do you figure kids had to grow up quicker in the 60s than they do now?

It doesn't matter anyway. Peter has to grow up quickly not because of the era he's in, but because he loses his parents and then his surrogate father, has to help his struggling aunt, becomes a dedicated crime fighter at 16 and is a genius for his age. Don't you think maybe there is a *reason* why Ditko drew him looking older?

Great power great responsibility. In other words, Peter learns adult lessons early and has to rise to meet their challenges when he's still a kid. So he should convey that level of maturity like he did when Lee and Ditko originally conceived of him.
>>
>>69217611
Garfield's Peter was atrocious. His spiderman actually made quips but he didn't talk 90 percent of the time like Spiderman should do during fights.
>>
>>69227248
Not him but, by my age my grandfather had like 3 kids already and a successful career as a bank manager.
>>
>>69227156
That's wrong. Peter only really flies off the handle when something very drastic happens. Your picture is disproving your own point, he went postal on Norman only when he killed Gwen, and had never done anything like that before and rarely has since. What are you even thinking of besides that one time?

In fact he routinely does the opposite of what you're saying, he is always thinking how he'd like to pulverize people like Flash and Jameson but holds himself back because it would be wrong.
>>
>>69220781
Have you read a single spiderman comic? Tom nailed it.
>>
>>69220648
>and Andrew Garfield
anyone would be better than that guy.
>>
>>69226762
If Spider-man was older it wouldn't make sense that he missed the first avengers movie. But they needed Spidey in there because they got the rights back and Spidey was a big part of the comics civil war.
>>
Anyone think Aunt May may have figured out that Peter is Spider-man in the MCU?

>She's heard of Spider-Man
>Tony Stark, who is publicly known to be Iron Man, shows up at the apartment to personally talk to Peter
>Spider-Man is then seen in Germany fighting alongside Iron Man
>Iron Man is now accountable to the UN, so the world knows what happened at the airport
>He was fighting against Captain America, who is publicly known to be Steve Rogers from Brooklyn.
>Peter shows up injured, and fought a Steve from Brooklyn

Maybe that's why she asked if he got "a few good licks in", despite May normally loathing the idea of Peter getting into fights.
>>
>>69227451
He wasn't a big part of this civil war at all though, so they really didn't "need" him. In fact they weren't going to have him at all originally. Really, if he hadn't been in this movie, it would not have detracted from it in any way. All he did was make a bunch of jokes that were mostly not funny. Everything that was meaningful about his part in Civil War wasn't in this movie, and couldn't have been since he was brand new anyway.
>>
>>69227563

Honestly, no one was needed outside of Stark and Rhodey in this. The Civil War and the hero mash up was just to sell more tickets, and Spider-Man is the one who could help sell the most.
>>
>>69217871
Is this a real quote? If so, respect for taking responsibility for JUSTing the third movie, even though the situation was way more complicated than that.
>>
>>69227596
Right, so if we're agreed that he was shoehorned in to hype the movie up more then we're on the same page.
>>
>>69227649

Yes, I'm an agreement in that, but the issue you have isn't exclusive to Spider-Man. Everyone else outside of Cap, Bucky, Sam, Stark and Rhodey is just fluff.

Cap needs his buddies. Stark needs his Rhodey and dead mummy.
>>
>>69227614
I don't recognize that quote but it probably is real, Raimi definitely has acknowledged the third movie was bad. He basically said that when it was determined Venom had to be in the movie, he should have just bit the bullet and tried to make the best Venom movie he could for the people who are fans of that character even though he isn't, instead of trying to still make the movie he wanted while cramming the symbiote into it. He's a pretty cool guy. A lot of other people would have just put all the blame on Sony.
>>
>>69227563
You're right that he didn't need to be in this and his comic book reveal of his identity doesn't fit and isn't important to the movie civil war, but I'm just saying why they didn't start him in college despite skipping his origin, and I also enjoyed his part in the movie, despite knowing that he was edited in with refilming after they got his rights back. I just assume marvel felt they needed to prove to the audience that they were doing spider-man right since they got the rights back.

They didn't have to, but the ultimately did. Compare a modern kid to a kid back then, even an underprivileged one. The 60s were simply a different time. This whole networking thing is kind of fucking the current generation's shit up.
