I like Stannis, but after the battle of ice, which everyone assumes he'll BTFO the Boltons and Freys, he doesn't really have that much to do.
Assuming the rest of the North then bends the knee, Davos brings back Rickon and installs him as Lord of Winterfell, it's not like he can march back south in the middle of Winter to the devastated Riverlands. His fleet is pretty much gone after Hardhome. He's going to get a bunch of shitty sellswords, (since the good ones are all with Dany or Aegon) but have no real way to feed that army through winter.
