Unlike most of the other cast she was not a good actress i think so i don't think it would have worked regardless .Still interesting if they had given her a good story later on but i doubt it would have worked

That's a really tough what-if, given how early she left. I suppose it depends on the producers understanding that her request to leave was really a plea for being better written and responding appropriately.
The biggest thing I can think of would be that Shelby probably wouldn't have been teased as a potential new XO in BoBW - a lot, if not all, of her role would likely have gone to Yar.
